Alternate paths in SP

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Alternate paths in SP

Ok just bought the game, which promises that I can do what I want. Started SP hoping to be a pirate or bounty hunter or something, then discover that my first ship comes from Liberty. Ok, damn, nm, do the mission for the ship. The next couple of missions are all Liberty (Juni). Before I go any further, am I going on the wrong track if I want to finish the game on the other side? Is there *even another side* in SP or do you have to play liberty?

"Wait 'n' See"... sounds 'corny' right

But really that's it... the plot turns & twists all the way

In the begining you prolly have to take a few Liberty missions unless you're really hardcore

As you'll notice on your stats screen, you have to take some missions to advance level... about every other level you have to take a 'story' mission (meeting Juni etc.)

When you've 'finished' the 'story', you'll be around level 20 & that's when the game 'really' begins ...at least if you like to control your own destiny.

You can't go your own way until after you finish the storyline, level 18.

I disagree. There are many, many times you can go your own way by ignoring the storyline for a while.

In fact, its more fun (imho) to be a pirate at level 10 when you can't afford the best ships.

Its more fun to explore Kusai space in a dagger cause thats all you have.

Its more fun to be a trader and making 10,000 credit runs when 10,000 credits actually means something to you.

You can do your own thing from time to time, some factions will hold to the end, others will shift when story line finishes. As equipment is level based, in the sp game you are stuck untill you finish the story line. Otherwise ppl would be finishing the story in a vhf with nomad weapons. Only way out is to multiplay, also thought I saw a way to disable the storyline somewhere in this forum.

You disagree but then say for awhile. You must follow the single player campaign if you wish to advance in levels and travel to all the other systems, there is no way around this. There is no Alternate Path. You can try to change factions or do what you like, but in the end, it's all the same.

Yes, if you want to go above level 18, you have to finish the storyline, or download the patch here, or play muliplayer.

But you can take off and do your own thing at many different places, as mentioned in other posts, and after you and Juni are on the run, pretty early in the story, ALL the systems are open to you, no restrictions except what you can handle at level 10ish. I've traveled all through Kusari space in a well equipt dagger and done my own thing for 30 hours, ignoring the SP storyline. I could complete the storyline, and buy a super-duper-fighter and then cruise around Kusari space later, but thats not what I want to do, I want to explore now and I can do that while ignoring the SP campaign.

If your only goal is to rush up to level 30 and get the biggest, baddest ship, then you need to complete the single player campaign since its "in your way". If you want to be a pirate, trader, bounty hunter, sherriff, explorer, there are a couple of places you can do that without completing the SP campaign to do so, you just wont be able to do them (yet) in an uber-ship.
