Beware Gunfights Around Friendly Bases!

I had just left port of a friendly base in the Kusari sytem. I was immediately attacked, I think by a bunch of Golden Crysthanthimums. During the Dogfight I was chasing one back toward the base and they flew right up near it as they were dodging my fire. Of course, my shots that missed the mark travelled past and hit the base......before I knew it I was getting attacked by dozens of ships.....I was thinking....what the F**K, where did all these Golden's come from in the middle of the Kusari system!!

Then I noticed it was the Kusari Navy attacking me as well! My stray shots on the base must have turned everyone hostile toward me!

I kept fighting though, but was it was starting to look bad, so I made a run for the nearest trade lane. I got in and ran to the next area, where the base there was still showing friendly when I clicked on it while still travelling in the trade lane. But as soon as I popped out of the trade lane, everyone, including that base, turned hostile on me as well!

I quit and reloaded.

It takes at least a few shots to trigger a friendly to become hostile. Maybe you should lay off the trigger there, Happy =P This just goes to show that Autosave is your friend.

Boscoe-
Boy, I'm starting to learn how touchy you guys are about what you consider a spoiler. I never would have thought this was anything more than just General Discussion.....or a minor tip.

No problem, It's your forum....I've just never been to a forum that considered such innocent information a spoiler.

I guess if you tell anyone anything usefull that's not printed in the manual....that qualifies as a spoiler in your book?

While you may not consider it a spoiler, some people like every little aspect of the game to be a surprise to them. While I for one like to be a little educated about things before I jump into a game clueless, I respect people who want to go in knowing nothing.

I suspected that would happen, so I've always been careful with my shots around bases. I do have a similar story, however. A friend was escorting my freighter on a trade run. We were attacked when we came to a jumpgate. My friend instantly went on the attack, while I targeted the jumpgate and tried to dock. "Jumpgate in use. Entering que," was the response I got back. Oh great, two big freighters were doing a slow turn towards the jumpgate, and I was stuck with umpteen million Corsairs.

Since I wasn't going anywhere, I switched to turret mode and started firing back at the Corsairs. My nearest target was directly above me, a weird angle to target from. With my ship obstructing my camera view, I unwittingly sent a couple bursts into the freighter above me. Suddenly everything went red. The frieghters, their escorts, the police - all but my friend.

Stuck in the que, I did the only thing I could think to do, I targeted the (now red) trade lane gate behind me and beat feet; leaving my friend behind. I entered at about the same time as a freighter and convoy heading the same direction (now red.) When we all popped out the other side, it was still red to me...that stirred up another beehive, but I managed to race to another trade lane before anyone could react beyond a few pot shots.

In regards to whether or not this is a spoiler, I agree that the mod went overboard here. If this is a spoiler, than so is every other story posted on the discussions board. They all provide hints about possible tactical issues. For that matter, I'm sure many of them name the sector or enemy they were fighting. Goodness, won't the ears turn red for any newbie that reads about some foe or location they haven't encountered yet!

Aside from that, here, there, it's just as easy to click on one forum as the next.

On a similar note, if you manage to attack any non-criminal enough to make it attack back, every non-criminal that comes into the area will immediately start attacking you. Any non-criminal that comes into the area AT ALL after that happens, even if the fighting is over, will immediately attack you. While attempting to make the outcasts like me, I was using the GMG to do so as someone on this forum or another said "kill these guys, they have no allies." So that's what I did! Then I realised that as soon as I attacked a GMG ship, every ship in the area was an emeny and I had been killing Kusari as well for the past 10 minutes. So then the GMG hated me and the outcasts were neutral, so I figured I could go buy the sabre. Well, I get to a stop in new tokyo, go to land and sell all the stuff I had tractored from the GMG, get almost to the dock and a GMG ship shows up, and suddenly everything in the area, the dock, the police, the tradlanes were ALL enemies and all firing at me so I couldn't dock and had to run to the next station to dock. Then I got my sabre, went back and spent like 30 minutes destroying every ship that came into the area. Talk about a mess.. there was cargo floating all over the place.
