RACE LEVEL??NEED HELP

When I first learned of the race in SP story I thought to myself "oh crap, some dumb requirement I can't shoot my way out of", and was worried I'd spend the next 5 days trying to get past it. Nope. Beat him the first time I tried in a Crusader (Britonia's Heavy Fighter). I don't recall hitting anything and the guns towards the end weren't a threat at all.

Not sure why you guys are having so much trouble. The only challenge I recall was in one sharp turn I had to make through a ring. Other than that I just concentrated on getting the most direct route and cutting corners as sharply as I could. Didn't even worry about where he was because I knew it would be a distraction.

Yeah you guys where right, just use shift+w at the beginning, even though it took me three times to pass the level. Thanks for the info

Hey guys, figured out why I was dropping out of cruise in the race, Seems that my Radeon 9700 has some compatibility problems with the game. So supposedly with the next 3.2 drivers this problem should be fixed. Also you can solve this problem and the slowing down that occurs with the mouse and menus by deceasing the hardware acceleration in your cards setup.

Wow, if you people are having trouble with the race, watch out for the latter missions. The race is simple compared to some of the last missions. Good luck.

I beat him in a Dromedary freighter. Just use port and starboard thrusters to give you the edge in the turns.

I don't know what's knocking me out of the course but something is. It sometimes shuts my cruise down 3 times before the second gate. Needless to say, even one cruise restart is enough to loose the race. Anyone knows for sure what causes the cruise speed to restart and how to avoid it?
Also the damn heavy fighter doesn't seem to help.
