I've tried - unfortunately you crash into something about 1000+ meters, you cant get closer in..

Note: If you look at the bottom left radar/monitor - this object looks like a weapon platform - (wierd).

yes i did it too, some days ago i´ve posted the same question and no, you can´t reach it. I´ve tried it about 15 times from every direktion, it is of course a weapons platform, but one of the miracles of the game i think.

I´ve been grilled with the titan and a lvl. 10 shield with 71 nanobots all the time, so if you can reach it...,

What I didn´t try was to send some torps to it, to blow it up but i think you will not get the result of your shot before you are grilled

That thing is just some leftover, and it doesn't have to be weaponplatform, there is many other objects that have this same logo.
Yeah, I tryed to get near as fast I could and scan it, but you just bounch back like balloon and scan shows nothing. So, it's nothing.

I would think if you're gonna get fried in a heavy ship with level 10 shields, chances are your torps would be fried LONG before gettin' near the target.

Suns don't do anything to your shieldlevel but fry your armor in a few seconds.
And I think those torpedoes go all the way (reading the distance of sun, unknown object and torpedo, just nothing happends.
