Stuck on Mission with Ambush

I am stuck on the mission where you are trying to get Sinclair to that hideout planet with that Kress guy and you are ambushed by the huge Rhineland fleet, its like 3 Heavy Cruisers and a bunch of fighters. It just tells me to hold them off while Sinclair escapes, but I just can't do it. They take me out the instant I get near the ships, even if I keep my distance. I can't afford much at this point, just missles only a few, and sheidl batteries and nanobots. But these ships knock my sheilds down so quickly I go through 10 batteries in no time.
I am stuck, can someone give me some pointers on how to get by this mission?

Somebody must have gotten past this mission, in fact I think many of you have, there must be someone out there that can give me some pointers?

I completed it, I just fought it out with them. Maybe work on your evasion techniques more. Not sure what else to say.

Well, did you fire on the Cruisers or just the fighters?

There are 2 Rheinland gunships with that fleet. Attack them first. Keep your fire at them instead of the fighters. Rheinland gunship is the easiest to kill. Just fly behind its ass and keep shooting. Use thruster to keep the distance as close as possible so it can't manuver away. Repeat with the second gunship......

After the gunships are destroyed, it will be pretty easy to duke it out with those fighters
