I see all this different types of shields tachyon, particle or whatever but I have no clue what the difference between them is

do different types of shields protect well against missisles but not guns or something

Someone please tell be what the difference between the different shields are so I know which kind to get (suggestions?)

btw I am in a barracuda w/ 2 adv skyrails and 2 lavablade mkIII lvl 13 in sp
