WHY is it in the middle of a fricken mine field, and is there anything in the alaska sector??

It's only there because it's part of one of the single player story missions.
Then mysteriously it won't be a problem to go there.

I did go to the jumhole afterwards but you cannot enter it.. there is a hole in the minefield

There's actually a small gap in the minefield but unfortunately access to the jumpgate is denied...

just change difficulty to 0.00 and you're invincible... time to take a stroll in the minefield...
