Newbish Question

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Newbish Question

What brake reverse and engine kill do??

Post Sun Mar 09, 2003 10:46 pm

try it out in the game yourself.

If i can figure out in the game myself, why would i have to make this post?

You get 'tractor beam failed' also when there's simply nothing out there to tractor in.

Engine kill simply stops your ship's engine. Not unlike stopping your car's engine.

And reverse thrust lets you go reverse.. that is, backwards. At a very slow speed.

Brake reverse is the fly backwards key (I think? not sure what the game actually calls it.. its X by default)

Engine kill stops you instantly

The cargo hold full usually occurs when you are trying to tractor something you are full of, so if you have your ships full limit of shield batteries or Nanobots, you get that message.. I just hammer the tractor all loot key every time anything explodes nearby! it always gets what it can

engine kill does not stop you instantly. It kills your engine and you still drift. What can you do with it? Well, use your thrusters to boost speed up to 100 to 199, do an engine kill, swing around and Voila! you are moving backwards at -100 to -199 speed and your forward guns are facing who ever is stupid enough to follow you. If they have a missle lock on, push your thrusters and your speed go from -100odd to +100odd and watch your enemies surprised look of '..whatta?!!!'
after you zoom past them, repeat the engine kill-thrust maneuver and come up behind them. A variation i use is flying sideways and shooting.
