Good ol' Dexter win all the time against you too?

Well, I'm not as good at this game as some of you (probably too old and slow) and couldn't beat Dexter.

WELLLLLLL, I decided I didn't like the ship he was using....

1. Get the INI decompresser.
2. MAKE COPIES OF YOUR FILES!
3. Uncompress the npcships.ini file under DATA\MISSIONS\M06
4. See Dexter as the first entry? It looks like this:

nickname = MSN06_Dexter
loadout = MSN06_Dexter
level = d6
ship_archetype = bw_fighter
pilot = MSN06_Dexter
state_graph = FIGHTER
npc_class = lawful, FIGHTER

Hrmmm, some kind of fighter....we don't want that, too easy for him to win! Lets give him something slightly larger....like a BATTLESHIP!

5. Change the entries above to the following:
nickname = MSN06_Dexter
loadout = li_n_li_dreadnought
level = d6
ship_archetype = li_dreadnought
pilot = MSN06_Dexter
state_graph = CRUISER
npc_class = lawful, battleship, d25

6. Now RACE! LOL! Dexter can't even fit through the hoops!!!! LOL! Take your time. But I found there seems to be a time limit so don't take too much time! Dexter might fly around a bit, but he can't fit through the hoops so he will lose!

Sorry, I just hate annoying missions like this.

hehe, thanks. I tried and tried this mission and just kept messing up when the hoop altitude started changing. I got so frustrated and found that I either cheat or stop playing.

So I cheated

lol, it's so funny too! Its a fitting end to that damn mission.

If you try it in a small fighter instead of a big freighter, it's not very hard.

I tried it in that light fighter sold there. I just couldn't do it. Like I said, I'm too old and slow.

It took me 4 times to beat him. I finally learned the exact lay out of the race, so it was very easy that 4th time. I beat him in the Bretonian Heavy Fighter (whatever it is called).

Help Please...I installed the INI uncompressor and edited the npcships.ini file like you said, but...How do you get the new file compressed to replace the old ini file? I removed the original ini file and replaced it with the edited, uncompressed file after naming it for the original file, but nothing changes. The asshole racer is still flying the fighter and I can't beat him. What am I missing in the steps to get him flying a battleship instead of a racer? Thanks.

I'm useless at these kind of missions too, but I got this one on the second attempt, flying the Bretonian HF. The trick is to hit Shift-W as soon as possible. It doesn't matter if he has a slight lead, cause the mission apopears to make him crap out as long as you are right behind him. Be too far back and he doesn't crap out and wins.

When you uncompress the file, it makes a npcships.ini.txt file.

You need to backup your old file (copy it out), delete the original, then rename your npcships.ini.txt to npcships.ini. you don't have to recompress it, the game still works with it uncompressed.

for those of you who don't want to cheat, I was able to defeat him by ramming him. It seems to disable his cruise engines but not yours. Sucker!

I did it first try doing this...
hit shift w as soon as you can, then just take your time and worry about makeing the rings, don't worry if he stays ahead of you as long and you keep up with him, at the very end you should win the race.
