Trying to get to Magellan

I'm trying to get to Magellan from New York. I've tried both the jumphole in New York and the jumpgate in California, but I'm getting a "access denied". What do I have to do to get access? Do I need to continue on the plot or do I need to get in better standig with a certain faction?

Juni tells you when she gives you your starting ship. You won't have jump permission. Continue the plot and you will be able to jump. I think after mission 3. Here some advice, explore the systems, it's real fun. don't just jump from system to system. cruise around. and listen to the dialogues. then u won't have to ask such questions no offense though. i'm just a little bit stressed and my beer is warm. I HATE WARM BEER. this one here sucks.

Thanks, but I'm already beyond mission three. I've already visited Colorado and California, and was interested in getting to New London to get a better ship. Now I'm just wondering what the reason is that I can't get in. Do I either have to get a better rating with a certain faction, or do I need to advance the plot to be allowed to go beyond the Liberty systems?

EDIT: Here's a solution to your beer problem: drink faster!!

What about in multiplayer? I was hoping I could make some carmadrine runs from Mactan to Manhattan, but I can't seem to get into Magellen without going the long way. Is it something to do with player levels? I thought it was the friendly factor but the jumps are still either friendly or neutral so it can't be that. What's the deal?

Ok, thanks. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. As I wasn't asking plot specific info, I wasn't sure whether to post in the spoiler forum or not. I'll be sure to be more carefull next time. Thanks again for the info.
