Story Mission #4

Well i am playing SP story misison 4 where you have to go to the california system and escort some alien artifect. However, despite of the fact that i have a Startracker and the best weapons i can obtain, i still have extreme difficult finishing the mission. The problem is that the nme cruises are too strong. Anyone have suggestion?

i go through shilds like pouring water out of a glass! can't seem to get it. the most i've been able to do is kill only two ship's before i get blown to smitherines.
I'm thinking of just hanging back and letting juni and that patrol do all the killing. what do ya think?
