The coalition is probably still in Sol system; but then again, a lot can happen in 800 years (the battle you saw in intro was 800 yrs from FL time...)

But who knows, maybe coalition will make a comeback in the expansion pack... if there ever is one.

yes they were.
Freelancer takes place in the same universe. Just a different Sector and 800 years later. The alliance sent sleeper ship to the Sirus Sector because they lost the war with the Coalition.

Yep, Starlancer is the prequel to Freelancer. The Russians and Chinese somehow managed to get the upper hand in the war and sent the Americans, Germans, British(and Irish), Spanish(Corsairs), and Japanese to Sirius. If this game does really well (and all indications is that it will), then maybe DA and MS can make a Freelancer sequel with a Coaltion invasion of Sirius? Or maybe the Houses can reclaim Sol?

Heh, all that bloody hard work in Starlancer and we still lost...

If you read all the intro material, it is mentioned that the entire Sol system is destroyed by an alien force after the ships leave. The alien ship showed up, popped the sun, and annihillated everything that was left of either side in the process. There is no coalition anymore.

We don't know that anymore because DA edited that part out in the intro =)

Yep, DA edited that part out. I guess they wanted to leave it open. So, officially, the Coalition and Sol still exist unless they decide to kill them off again.
