help a newb on mission 1

what is the most one can get out of mission 1?
Should I loot? Does not seem to be enough time.
anything gained by joining the fight or just wait it out. and head for the exit?
thanks for your help.

Just try to deliver the finishing blow to enemies, otherwise they wont drop a thing. Then simply hit 'b' to activate the tractor beam and get all the loot at once.
