Demo - Anomaly/Phenomenon in Badlands - anybody else see it/

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Demo - Anomaly/Phenomenon in Badlands - anybody else see it/

Hey all,
I'm new here. Been playin' the demo - loving it. Just recently got on the good side of the Liberty Rogues *snickers* - bought me a Dagger with the mod to let you buy any ship in the demo - pretty nice craft. Have some nice weapons for it too.
Anyways, ran across something strange. I came out of the jump gate into the Badlands (only place I DON'T have to worry about being attacked much in now - lol). Anyways, I was on my way to the Buffalo station, when I encounted something strange. I got to an area that was still inside the Badlands but did not have any rock formations and saw some sort of strange phenomenon. It was a wormhole/white hole - not sure exactly what it was, but as I approached it I started to glow and spark (like I might burn up), so I got out of there. I had just come back from some long dogfighting and making progress with reputation, so I didn't want to risk dying. I noted where it was (near the word Magellan on the map from what I remember), went to the Buffalo Station and landed, and then later went back out looking for it to try flying into it.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it again. What I did find is two other phenomena in similar areas that serve as unstable jump gates to other systems (New York and Texas I believe), but these are NOT what I saw before. These are multicolor, while what I saw before was more whitish (or possibly a very light blue). Also, when you approach these you don't glow and spark like I did approaching that. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and where to find it? Maybe I remember the location wrong - like I said, I THOUGHT it was near the word Magellan on the map, but I could be mistaken. I know it was in a rockless portion of the Badlands though. I'm really curious as to what this thing is. (It'll prolly just destroy me, but I want to find it again anyways - hehe).

Thanks
Shaun

i found the exact same thing, was about the size of ur ship? like a little sun?

i flew straight through it without taking damage......... and im sure i found it while flying down there somewhere, but same thing, cant remember where

You just washed up here or something?

Well, good to know I'm not delusional at least. Yeah - about the size of the ship sounds right. It was bright like a sun. (Though it did look more like some sort of wormhole or a white hole to me). Hmmm...I'll just have to keep looking I guess. I wonder if it does anything - I'm surprised it didn't destroy you. Shoulda tried to fly through it when I was there but I was too worried about losing all that progress (I was just starting to get in good with the Rogues - lol).

Yea, it's nothing, you cant do anything with it. It's just an anomaly in the badlands. There's even research station studing one, if you can find it.

Just for the record this anomoly is in the top right corner of D7 inside what looks like a little black circle on your mini map.
Sure looks crazy though, reminds me of the light people say they see when they are almost dead... hmmm... Now im thinking too much...

Hmmm - just looked where you said, and STILL couldn't find it again. Gonna try again in a little bit. (Unfortunately, hit the limit again somehow, so I have to do it as an enemy in a less powerful ship - lol).

Yup - that's it! And I finally found it exactly where stated above (thanks to everyone who provided info/screenshots/etc.). Cool to see even if it is useless. Though unless you mean Ithica, I don't see the station studying it. (Still looking for Bedford mentioned in the info. on the Badlands - haven't found that one yet).

I found it a while back and somebody told me it was a naturaly occuring jump hole

Post Wed Mar 05, 2003 7:55 am

Hmmm...interesting point. The two other natural jump gates don't work in the demo (though you can target them - it just denies you access if you try to "dock" - maybe this other anomaly DOES do something...just not in the demo version?

uhm, no. once you get the full game you'll understand, that's all.

Can you provide a screenshot at the location from your nav map? I can't find it.

The anomaly has something to do with singleplayer, you'll find out when you get the full game.

Not sure how to post pictures, so I'll try to describe the area again first.

As stated before, it is in grid point 7D towards (but not completely at) the upper right. If you have the "*New York -> Magellan" warp gate text on your map (you would have had to found that first), it is immediately above the text and touching the top straight part of the "k" when the map is in the zoomed out position, and as stated above if you look really closely at your zoomed out map, it's in a small, completely black circle there (but that's a bit hard to see).

If you zoom in the map to this same area, you should see the Ithica Research Station in the extreme top left of one of the squares (again if you found it, and it's unmarked - you have to put your cursor over it on the map to see the name, though it's right by a trade lane so it's not hard to spot). Go right two more squares and look around the mid-to-bottom left. Hope this helps!

Also, cool that it has a function. I look forward to finding out more about it in the single player game.

Secondly, I noticed this was moved from the general discussion forum to this spoiler one, and my apologies to the moderators and anyone who read the thread and wished they hadn't - at the time of posting the initial thread I didn't consider this as a spoiler since I thought it was just a space phenomena that didn't signify much. I'll be sure to be more careful about that next time (but hopefully at least the topic was clear enough that nobody was upset they read it).

Anyhow, thanks for all the responses, people.
