Engine speed remains constant, but you'll definitely want to upgrade the thruster. Goes from Regular, Deluxe, Improved, Advanced. You can get an advanced right away, but costs 6,000 credits. Worth every penny!

A good way to improve your thruster efficiency is using the kill engine function of your ship, check your control mapping for the key. I find that highly underused on MP servers from what I saw. Kill engine, then accelerate to 200.. speed units.. whatever they are using.. meters/second? And then release the thruster. You will only slow down very slowly. Awesome way of running from pirates when in a freighter or outgunned. Accelerate and hit the thruster every now and then when you are getting too slow. You can outrun someone using an advanced thruster if you are only using the basic one this way. You can even engage cruise drive, kill your engine and fly at 300m/s *and* you can shoot. No more getting knocked out of cruise. Once you got a missile locked onto you, kill the engine, and you won't get knocked out of cruise speed (if they are firing Wasps/Hornets). Give it a try.

So what's with the news tidbit on Crete that talks about Tripoli station figuring out a way to boost engine speed 50 percent? (Both in Omicron Gamma). They don't sell anything extra. Is this just something to taunt me with the promise of faster travel?
