Omega 5 strangeness

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Omega 5 strangeness

just a couple of things that are puzzling me.

In Omega 5, when I first entered the system (I may have been here a while back when doing the SP campaign), there were a couple of wrecks. I couldn't remember if I had visited them so I headed towards the nearest - straight into a mine field. As my shields (Hammerhead with class 9 shield) seemed to be holding up well I tried to check all three / four out and noticed that the Corsair ships that were coming after me sort of stopped quite quickly. By the time I had got to the last wreck, I checked the map and there are now 25 - 30 wrecks!

This doesn't happen in any other system, is this a "feature"?

Also, in the nav map, I can float the mouse over "Hammen Hole", but when I get there, there is no hole and I can't target anything in the map at that location. Is this a jump hole to one of the unknown sectors? Do I need to be higher than level 35 to "activate" it, or is there something else going on?

I never got around to looking for the 2 (?) unknown sectors the last couple of times I played FL, but when I find them will the Hammerhead be good enough? I can beat 8 - 10 Bounty Hunter Hammerheads and 8 - 10 Titans without working up a sweat - though the Titans were taking a while to kill with the 6 x Vampire 3 that I had mounted - I've picked up enough Salamanca's now to change my loadout to 2 x Salamanca Mk I Class 8 plus 4 x Salamanca Mk II Class 9, plus a Vampire Turret - so hopefully this will be better. I've also got 8 x Class 10 guns that I picked up from different wrecks so I might get a Sabre and use them if the unknown sectors are going to be too tough on the Hammerhead?

So in summary:

1. What's up with the wrecks in Omega 5?

2. Hammen Hole - does it go anywhere?

3. Is the Hammerhead good enough for the unknown sectors?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

1. The wrecks there, are just wrecks, and there are 25-30 of them to begin with. The only bases in Omega-5 belong to the Hessians and the Corsairs, who, as luck would have it are bitter enemies, which leads me to your next question.

2. The Hammen Hole is not a jump hole. In fact, it is little more than a no-mans land between the minefields of the respective sides, and is generally good for quite a bit of combat.

3. Whether any ship is 'good' enough to explore the Edge worlds (omicrons, etc), is entirely up to the way you fly. Many people, including myself go out there frequently in a lot less, but it often takes some skillful diplomatic or physical maneuvering. If you're speaking of the unknown systems (the monkey worlds, etc), the Hammerhead is good enough for exploring. And if you're going there, make sure thats all you do (i.e. Never drop out of cruise). No stock FL ship is strong enough to last too long in those high radiation, heavy combat environments. Strong pilots can hold out quite a while against the nomads there, but always have an escape route and plenty of batts/bots. It only takes one or two lucky hits from a Nomad to spread you and your ship across the galaxy.

Hi, thanks for the reply. 1 & 2 o.k.

3. I've already run around from Tau-23 to Tau-37 and the Omicron sectors. Re. the diplomacy point I made friends with the Outcasts so that I'm not getting attacked all the way - you have to top up flares and batts every now and then. I did a bit of exploring first but as I was getting swamped by Sabres and Stilettos I thought I'd try a more freindly approach. I've not bothered to make friends with the corsairs so I still get plenty of action. I've also been running a couple of missions for the bounty hunters against the corsairs and when that gets me friendly with the bounty hunters I zoom off to planet malta amd do a couple of Outcast missions against the Bounty Hunters - 10 to 12 Hammerheads and 100k payout - and that puts me back to neutral with the Bounty Hunters - a bit cheeky I know.

cheers

Hmm- maybe you should go and spend some time whacking Red Hessians- nobody likes 'em, it'll make the Corsairs like You, and there are a couple of cool features about being able to run around the home systems of both the Outcasts and the Corsairs - For example, there are usually a couple of Really Cool spots to go exploring, and you'll never know what you might find....

But bring your best toys!!

ah, I think I found one of these cool spots, surrounded by wrecked ships. I truied out the Sabre so i could mount my class 10 guns but it turns like errr poo, so I changed it for an Eagle and put 4 of my captured Nomad Energy Cannons on the front - that soon sorts out the Titans.

In the whole though I think I've pretty much done most things so I'm going to spend a few days palying the Hostile Universe mod. I've run it up and it certainly is harder than the standard FL game - I guess it'll keep me out of trouble for a few days.
