another FL question - mission spoilers

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

another FL question - mission spoilers

greetings, time to ask nicely for your advice again.

I'm on the mission where you have to go to Sprague and you get jumped by the 4 Rheinland ships. I've tried this half a dozen times but I just get my butt handed to me. I can kill 2 or even 3 of them but not all. I've got a Defender - which I know is a bit weak but I have killed 232 ships in the 3 days that I've been playing FL. I've got all the weaps maxed for each laser bay. But I'm not using missiles, mines or countermeasures. I picked up a cruise disruptor but I don't think this ship can mount it?

Problem is that even when strafing I can pour fire into those boys but it takes an eternity to wear them down - what model ships are they?

I think that I am mainly outgunned rather than out flown but hey I've only been playing for a couple of days. After months of flying by keyboard I'm still getting used to the mouse.

Anyway, I think that atm I can only get past here by being lucky and that's not the way that I like to play. So my plan is to restart and get a better ship before I get to this point. I did get some cash off that Tobias (?) geezer and went to New London s/yard like he said but the only ships there were worse than the Defender. Don't get me wrong about the Defender - I did a couple of level 7 bounty missions while I was waiting for Juni and this machine can cope with these without taking too much damage, just about.

I don't mind restarting as I need the combat time anyway BTW I've got about 80k in cash so it's easy enough to earn but I think I went wrong earlier by mot getting a better ship?

Primary Question: Can I doodle around after the first mission and build up 80k or so and a Defender, then soon as I get jump access, keep Juni waiting while I clear off to buy a Barracuda or Dragon?

Secondary Question: For info, what are the Rheinlander ships? Valkyrie?

thanks in advance,
brett

***Triple7---I always find it odd that we have a forum for n00bs and then tell them not to post questions regarding missions as everything could be a spoiler if you have not played. If any moderators reckon this is spoiler territory they might use their discretion and move it to FLDiscussion***

So many questions, so long ago! Sorry, I'll help where I can but have not played the missions for a while.

Sprague and lots of enemy? Where the hell is that Sprague place agin? Is that where they are blocking your jump gate as you lead out from Bretonia? No! Damned if I recall? Oh yeh, I think I have it. Bottom of the board, in the middle? Yeh? If so I'm not so sure you should be attacking the Cruisers. Keep back and go for the fighters. You have good support in the mission iirc. Also obey commands, when they tell you to dock or split do it.

Regarding ships, there is a ship available when Tobias gives you the creds, you can even buy it cheaper on New London, again if memory serves me right. It should last you a while if you can live with its god awful aestethics. I could not so kept the glorious Dagger.

Warp disruptors are good for pirates who want to stop prey from fleeing but you are more defensive atm. Maybe later, or even more so, maybe online PvP depending on your clan.

Maxed out weps drain the power waaayyy to quick. Maybe a better spread would work, some heavy some quick energy weps, some missiles for finishing off all with a lower class which would be more effective in long running dog fights?

I usually recommend folks to play and learn with their own style, but you seem interested so it would be equally rude not to help.

EDIT: Oh yeh...you can keep Juni waiting and build up creds with no harm done. I however am a gentleman and would not leave the lady waiting.

@Red777: Don't get me wrong, nobody has any problem with you being into the game, it is what we are all here for. Ask anything you need to. However a lot of the fun in FL is discovering the new systems, routes, weps, ships and what ones suit your style. If you get stuck fire away and ask but don't let yourself get bogged down, solving the problems in the missions is a way for the game to prepare you for the adventure ahead.

What he(Druid) said- and always remember that the previous solution doesn't always apply-the last time I tried to track the hours spent trying to find a "new" way thru, well,I quit after 100..
