Sudden changes in NPC hostility

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Sudden changes in NPC hostility

Hi gang. Happy to see such a robust following for this awesome game so long after its release!

NOTE THERE ARE SOME VERY MINOR PLOT SPOILERS TO FOLLOW IF YOU'RE STILL EARLY IN THE CAMPAIGN
Anywho, I've a quick question: I'm in the single player campaign at about level 10. After rescuing some scientist lady from a base, Juni gave me a little time off to raise a bit of havoc. We had brushed by the Mactan base a bit earlier, and I wanted to go back and check it out. I figured it'd be okay, because the Hackers had been friendly since we were on the lam from the LSF and other Liberty authorities.

So I head back to Magellan, and all of the sudden all of the NPC's turned hostile. I mean, even the Gateway Shipping transports that had been friendly (er neutral, I guess) on the other side of the jump gate all the sudden opened fire when we got into Magellan! Same with the Hackers who were there patrolling. My faction bars indicate that Gateway and the Hackers are neutral-to-friendly, and when I fled there I could dock at Mactan Base okay, but all the Hackers and Gateway ships were doing their damnedest to blow me outta the heavens, presumably just for setting foot (wing) in Magellan. What gives?

Some NPC's are frendly, while the story line is running and just for that time frame.

Note, this will be moved to the spoiler forum shortly.

You are probably hostile withy outcasts, whom are generally in proximity to Mactan, and are allies of the LH, thus catalysing their temporary hostility. Probably equivalent with BH/Gateway, or LN/Gateway (if you're hostile w/ BH or LN, which you may be due to campaign).

Thanks for the tips. I am on the outs with the Outcasts, and I shoot the hell outta Bounty Hunters every time I see 'em. So that's probably it.

So, follow-up: if I ran into the Lane Hackers and there were no Outcasts around, it's possible that they wouldn't be hostile?

Thanks again

After my game experience I think there is a built-in storyline-trigger in FL with "Mactan" and the Lane Hackers.
You need to dock there in the storyline, but you are not able to dock at Mactan later. I tried several times but even without LH/Outcasts around Mactan turned hostile (in the last moment) and I could not land there though the bar was full green with the LH.
I once even made the long way from Kusari just to test. No chance.

As mentioned above, I actually was able to land at Mactan even after the story-driven point where you land there, despite the fact that the Hacker ships with their Outcast escorts were chasing and trying to bust me up.

Last night I did confirm that the Hackers, when there are no Outcasts around, are operating in accordance with my character's 'neutral-friendly' status with them. I had a trade lane hacked out from under me, and the Hackers who did it took one sniff and then continued on their patrol without any further harassment.

That was in a Bretonia system. I'd like to test a little more in Magellan to see if it's any different in that system.
