If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Ship Evolution

Just something I noticed...

I suppose you all know how the look of ships evolve. For example, all the Liberty ships are based on winged eagles, with the exception of the Rhino (which I'll come to in a minute). The Civilian class is the best to look at, with the Starflier going to Startracker and then Hawk, Falcon, Eagle. There's also the Bounty Hunters Piranha, (which I found is actually quite nice to fly) Barracuda and Hammerhead. They're all names and looks on a theme.

But what I noticed is a lot of them also have similar cockpits. Something very weird struck me: I got a Rhino at the beginning of my new game after my good one (5 million credits, Omicron Gamma, max level, Titan with nomad weapons and codenames etc...) corrupted... And it was ok. I did a mission or two with its good number of guns for Liberty, and then traded Pharmaceuticals to Pittsburgh and Boron back to Manhattan. I noticed that its cockpit and frontal area bear an almost exact resemblance to that of the bounty hunter fighters, with the same windows and upright bit at the front.

The Rhino is the Liberty freighter and not a Bounty Hunter one. Do you think the BHs maybe copied the design for their ships...?

Considering that the Bounty Hunters originated in Texas, I'd say it's highly probable that their ships are related.

In any case, there are only a few different cockpit designs programmed into the game. It's not a major area in the design phase

Good point, I never thought about them originating in Texas... And you're right about the cockpits too. In fact, there are likenesses between ships from other places too.

I believe civy ships are Kusari Built. Read that somewhere.

Check out the description for the Eagle fighter, " 'The Eagle' stands vigil over the economic interests and therefore the ideological interests of Liberty." That makes me wonder where the civy ships are actually from.

I still think one of the rumors says civys are kusari built. Don't remember where I heard that though...

Ok ill clear this up for you the rhino you could call it a Ugly type ship its mostly ha hack job of 2 diffrent types of ship parts the cocpit of the ship is exaclty like the hammerhead if you disect the ship you will see the main body of the ship is exaclty like the pharanas main body you can compare alot of bodys to each toehr except of rheiland their original in all ways, but you can see alot of similairities in most of the ships but the dagger cocpits do need a tune up the angles they give off a deminsion effect hat gets you after a bit .But i hope this cleared it up close inspection of the ship will tell you alot.

Well, It's just a developers trick for saving money making models. Why Have 25-30 ships, when you can take 5 and make some minor changes to the model to fake out about 30? It's all about deadline if you ask me.

I believe it's because the designers wanted the ships or different houses to have some distinct design pattern. Bit like RL Russian fighters.

or... they could have gotten a little lazy, and just made some minor modifications and called it a different ship.

Yeah... The Rheinland ships all have the same cockpit area and they all have a big hump-like area. In the fighters, it seems to be the powerplant, and on the freighter it seems to be the largest part of the cargo bay.

Ugly though....

A friend'll bail you out of jail, A Good friend will be there sitting next to you saying :"Damn, that was fun!"

Anyone else think the Rheinland Valkyrie looks like the A-10 Thunderbolt "Warthog"?

Post Thu May 12, 2005 6:04 am

ehh... maybe a little.

btw, rheinland ships are ugly, but they kinda remind me of german WW2 fighters, which were pretty ugly also, but they were still pretty cool. I think the texture jobs look pretty good though.
