I've heard a rumor that there are, much deeper in those unknown areas, larger Nomad ships, almost the size of cruisers that will drop lv 10 turrets. Is there any truth to this at all?

I don't think so, since the suns in those systems are pretty close. I've been destroyed in those coronas and didn't find anything.
