A Strange Weapons Situation

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

A Strange Weapons Situation

First of all, I want you to know that there are some minor spoilers included in my question. For those of you who played the game for any length of time, these spoilers aren't really spoilers but rather a common knowledge.

My question has to do with obtaining Nomad Energy Blasters.
I am NOT looking for Nomad Energy Cannons.
I am looking for Nomad Energy Blasters and Nomad Energy Blasters only.
My question has NEVER BEEN asked before (other than myself asking this question in the "wrong" "non-spoiler" forum. Hence the need to re-ask this question in the proper channel.

******************************My Situation ********************************
After completing the single player campaign and decided to explore the rest of the universe a little more. Particularly, I am interested in searching for Nomad Energy Blasters, which requires zero energy to use. I found the location of nomad fighters in zone 4F in the Omicron Alpha system by accident while I was looting those Outcast Fighter wrecks nearby the unknown wormhole. After killing Nomad Fighters in the area for a while, I noticed that they were dropping Nomad Energy Blasters and Cannons. After collecting a number of these, I flew to the nearest friendly planet and sold some of them, keeping only the ones needed for equipping my ship (which happens to be a VHF Sabre). Alas, I goofed and I sold all but 3 Nomad Blasters and 1 Nomad Cannon, mistaking the cannon for the blaster! So I flew back to zone 4F in Omicron Alpha system and started hunting Nomad Fighters again.

Now, this is where the problem arises. Before, I was obtaining a nomad weapon from about one out of every 4 or 5 nomad fighters destroyed. But after revisiting the zone 4F, and after having killed well over 100 nomad ships, I found ZERO nomad weapons.

What am I doing wrong? Why did it work before but not work again the second time? Any helpful assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Puzzled and Frustrated,

nickster

p.s. For your info, I am playing the patched version 1.4, unmodded. To counteract the effects of damaging radiation in zone 4F, I activated the God-mode. And yes, I did find the nomad weapons with God-mode activated but I cannot find the alien weapons anymore on the 2nd try.

your chances should be the same. are you level 30 +?

Post Sat Dec 18, 2004 11:43 am

Yes, I am. Level 35, to be exact.

After looting those Class 10 weapons from the Outcast Fighters @4F in Omicron Alpha, I went from level 22 to 33 just like that.

Why would you ask me such question? Does the probability of looting a nomad weapon depend on one's level?

i think you do need to be at least level 30. The probability for nomad drop varies. you should get more if you kill more. you can try going to omicron gamma for the lower unknown system because there's a planet in there and no radiation.

Thank you for the input. However, I think hunting in Omicron Gamma won't solve my problem. If these nomads stopped dropping nomad weapons here in Omicron Alpha, then they would most likely do the same in Omicron Gamma.

And I did not start hunting Nomad Fighters until I was level 33.

Do you have any idea what may cause these nomads to drop nomad weapons all of a sudden? Does it have anything to do with factions ratings?

Desperately Seeking an Answer,

nickster

you should keep on trying to get nomads. you'll get some eventually. faction reputation doesn't matter at all.

There dropping either Blaster or Cannon is as already stated level linked and a touch of luck. In single player they don't start until you are lvl32 and if Online then lvl34. But sometimes they Don't drop anything one night you play and another sometimes every wave of nomads drops a weapon so it's not a definate science.

Yep. I just confirmed this. No nomad weapons for the past two days and all of a sudden, they were dropping at the rate of 1 out of every three ships! It wasn't long until I had more Nomad Energy Blasters and Cannons than I knew what to do with.

It appears the drop rate is every erratic or triggered by something (only for a limited time).

Thank you for the info. I guess this thread can be now closed.

You may have dropped below the crucial level when you sold the original weapons. They're worth more (level-wise) when they're on board your ship, as you sell them for less than they're worth.
