Dumbest intro ever?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Dumbest intro ever?

I was starting up the game, so I could look up the New Berlin bartender(other thread), and for some reason decided to watch the intro, which I hadn't done in a long time. Well, as I was watching it, I realized something(and if this has been discussed before, I apologize)...... the Intro has absolutely nothing to do with the game. It does provide a smattering of historical setting, but other than that, nada, zip, zilch. If I had been the people who developed the intro, I would've shown the people on Pygar, finding the artifacts, and showing some of the "progression" of the Nomads thru the colonies. The intro they used for this game was pointless.

What do you think, and what would you have done?

Well, the nomads probably shouldn't be in the intro for the same reasons they cut the original intro: they're a pretty integral surprise in the plotline.

And why is the intro so bad? It provides ample historical background, explanations for why everything's in Sirius instead of Sol, and an explanation for those who were expecting a true sequel to StarLancer. It's dramatic, frantic, the graphic design quality is excellent, and the music matches the mood perfectly. I thought it was a good intro, and it sure beat other, truly "senseless" intros, such as the one for Battlefield 1942.

The intro for BF1942 fits the game perfectly - no real story, just various types of action. I still enjoy watching it every now and then.

i think that the oringinal intro was for a much bigger freelancer whitch they were planned too make and the nomands that is not the final boss and stuff but due to the hurrying of microsoft they had to made it shorted thus the nomands are the final boss now and the intro had to be changed or it would sopil wayyyyyyy too much info

Techniccly the FL intro does set up the SP campaign, it explains how the colonys got there after all.

LIke I said, it gives historical info, but nothing else. ANd they couldnt' shown something to do with the storyline without giving the Nomads away. Just show them finding the artifacts, then things changing, slightly.

it doesnt set up the campaign but it gives u historical background and why ure here, etc. basically it gives u a backdrop to why ure freelancing.

No it doesn't. All it shows is why Humans left for the Sirius system. You don't even know who you are until after you start the game, and go thru the first movie.

speaking as one of what I'm sure are many people who never played Starlancer, I felt the intro was really good background for those that had never heard of niether lancer. I know in the demo, you don't get the intro and you start off simply with the Freeport explosion that gives a good enough plot background. The uber-tight FL intro, with it's nice graphics, excellant music, and wicked awesome battle scenes was just icing on the cake, and it's very tasty icing I might add. It was a most pleasant surprise the first time I saw it. --- VH16

I thought it was okay, I like to find out info as I go along.

I never look for plot background in the intro, that's what the movie that plays after you hit "New Game" is for. The fact that the intro gave good historical info rather than just random stuff like 90% of other game intros and still mixed it with a large amount of action impressed me.

The Freelancer intro isn't that bad. Otherwise Starlancer vets would be wondering "What the hell!?" It's nessecary to explain why all the crazy things in the Sirius are happening. Oh but the best intro I have ever seen into the game has to be the BF: Vietnam one...I love that song!!!!!!
