If the Alaska system was really like the real Alaska:

1) Broken down ships from 30 years ago would float near the docking rings. Each would a "For SALE: $300 NEEDS WORK" sign in the cockpit window or painted on the side.
2) During the summer, tourists from Kusari and Rhineland would clog the trade lanes in their Mobile home Freighters that are worth more that the stations and planets that the Alaskan citizens live in.
3) People from the Texas and California systems would have large, expensive stations that they only stay in during the summer in Alaska.
4) The Department of Asteroids and Debris (DAD) would regulate how many asteroids you could mine and you can only keep them if they are a certain size and type, and only if they are in season.
5) Everyone under 20 would be addicted to Cardamine.
6) Everyone between the ages of 16 and 20 would have crashed their ships into a asteroid or docking ring at least 5 times.
7) Construction workers would only work during the summer on trade lanes, and only during rush hour.
Visitors from outside systems would get their expensive Eagle and Sabre fighters stuck in an ice asteroid that drifts into trade lanes constantly, and then have to get towed out by some fat guy in a Rhino.
9) If the LSF find Cardamine in your hold, they will ask you to share.
10) President Jacobi would want to drill for H-fuel in the ANWAR ice field.

Alaska is a fortress system with a Shipyard and a Prison, as far as i can tell, it is the chief staging ground for the Liberty Fleet, they dont have anything else in there because they dont need anything else.

So this Alaska system is really just a fortress, like Omicron Beta?

Not so much a fortress as a maximum security prison. Think about it - there's only one way in/out, protected by weapon platforms and battleships, with a shipyard nearby for servicing said protection. Plus, the actual prison facility is a good distance away, which would leave time to transmit the necessary warnings to lock the gate, or whatever, if there was a breakout
