Highest Lvl Light Fighter?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Highest Lvl Light Fighter?

Which is the highest level Light Fighter?

I've been flying around in a Drake ever since i finished the SP story and have gone from lvl 20-something to lvl 30-something without doing a single mission, just flying around discovering new worlds and weapons.

Now I've not seen the Corsair and Outcast light fighters in a store (they are only neutral to me) but when scanning them in space I think they are inferior to the Banshee.

I just wan't to try some new weapons!
Without having to buy a big chunk of metal with guns sticking out of it......

So what is the highest level light fighter? Is it the Banshee? (lvl 7-8 wpns)

With LFs the manveurability is key.
Any lightflier can and will run rings about a VHF, I've hunted high level VHFs etc withj starfliers, patriots, Bloodhounds <HARD not for the faint of heart> and Drakes.

Well jokes about Starfliers aside, statistically the Banshee is the 'best'. Certainly if you want to brave the radioactive areas of the Border Worlds you'll probably choose the Banshee over other LFs simply because you've got a better chance of surviving the elements. It's also arguably the least manoeuvrable, though, so you'll have to fly each LF to gain a feel for them and decide which is 'best' in your opinion. I personally like the Piranha best of all, but then, I'm a little biased

I tried the banshee but it felt a bit clumsy for a light fighter and it looked like a cardboardbox from behind so I was not happy with it at all.

hmm When looking through Jacksons ITAC the Eagle sounds like a good choice for me, since I want some manouverability but still try the bigger guns.
I haven't decided which faction to befriend yet though. I guess I'll have to start with the Zoners

Thank you for your replies.

@ dugge another thing to bear in mind is the level7 shield on the banshee
mind you i just replaced my banshee on boston with a vhf as due to the npc shield regen the 200k plus missions were impossible to complete in a realistic time

The "best" Light Fighter is the Drake, it's much more maneuverable then the rest.

And if you're using Light Fighters, it's maneuverability, not power you're after.

the drake as it comes to agility, the banshee if it comes to armor and weap power.

Thinking about it, if you want Rheinland engineering, you may as well shell out extra for the Valkyre. The manoeuvrability of the Banshee is probably insufficient for a LF class (you'll get hit at a lot more), so you may as well go for the extra durability of the Valkyre HF.

mm yes I have also thought about the Banshee/Valkyrie question.
But I haven't flown the Valkyrie yet so I do not know how much more agile the Banshee is.

But I have tried my first VHF and I must say that it is the most boring thing I've ever done in Freelancer!

For some reason it just didn't feel any fun at all to fly around in one of those things (I had an Eagle) I think it might have something to do with the fact that I get seriously annoyed by the sounds that the shield makes when it is hit. And even though fighting equal opponents in the border worlds it just wasn't fun, don't know why.

Just work your way back down the ship list until you find something that is the right combination of fun and challenge for you. Just about anything above class 6 makes Bretonia and Liberty too easy, though.
