i like kusari stuff. best lookin sector. plus, the research base thing is a good idea... for cover. or maybe smart pirates. (hehe cloaking and nomad ships for outcasts)

oh, and i would either put it in OMEGA-41, Tau-31 (the one with purple nebulas and stuff), Tohoku (or Shik*ku), or Sigma-17

those are the best systems.

maybe after i get smart pirates on my research base i will use the new technology to make my base inside a sun corona

1: 'science vessel' design from starcraft, docking ports on extrusions, use the dyson sphere shield-gen and have rapid-fire tachyon cannons inside the shield

2: exact centre of a system, sitting right outside the sun corona on the top, hidden by a white dust-field

3: Extreme, more than twelve turrets with equatorial torp and missile launchers. plus axial countermeasures.

4: theoretically abandoned, entirely self-contained so no outside resupply needed, basically a ghost-ship like baxter research station, operational, but with very few people on board

5: mostly robotic workers, some occasional military and science visitors, oh, and me, of course, often pirates and bounty hunters arrive to make use of the long-range sensor arrays.

Thanks for putting up this thread ... I had to think about it for a while.

1. F: Probably one that resembles Fort Bush, instead of West Point. And throw in a couple of storage containers and a shipyard next door. (Probably about the size of Baltimore Shipyard, and physically located directly next to the base, rather than across from it.)

2. F: Try along a major trade lane, situated between jump gates, with it's back facing an asteroid belt (with minerals, of course ... maybe silver and/or gold?).

3. A: Who're you kidding? If there's all that freighter traffic running around, with shipping containers and a shipyard next door, then of course I want high security. Make sure there's plenty of high-power military-issue turrets on both the base and the shipyard.

4. E: A contingent of BAF personnel (no LPI personnel, thank you) equipped with Cavaliers stationed at the base itself. Plus maybe a resident battleship at the base itself.

5. A: More security equals more visits from larger merchant corporations. That translates to more profits. (And keeps the Lane Hackers, Outcasts, and Corsairs away from my facility. I may have been a smuggler at one time, but let them run off to a Freeport facility to do their trades.)

And make sure to leave a ship around for the base commander? That way I can get out to examine problems without having to let my piloting skills get rusty. Preferably I'd like a Cavalier with good weapons, a missile launcher, a powerful thruster, and strong shields.

I forgot one other thing: my "dream base" would be better off out in the Edge Worlds, maybe on the Bretonian-Kusari route. It's better than trying to compete in Liberty territory.

the perfect base huh?
1.f- 5 medium sized asteroids linked together.
2.a- hidden in an asteroid infested orange nebula(reduced sensor efficency).
3.b- 6 turrets and 2 weapons platforms.
4.a- lots of patrols.
5.b- outcasts,lane hackers, hessians, etc. Almost every pirate group except xenos and corsairs.

Coming back here on a lark i saw this post. Maybe nobody remembers (since its been a long time past its release), but i've got the perfect base designed.

Name: Citadel
Q1: Massive central structure with 4 external substations connected by pylons and 1 ring connecting all substations. Substations each have 1 capital ship sized docking bay and docking bays for smaller craft on the sides. The central structure has docking bays for fighter sized craft only. Size wise, the station was so large it needed 5 sur files from asteroid bases for the central station and its 5 substations and its still not large enough.

Q2: With its capabilities, this station should have been totally self-sufficient. As such, i would have it placed somewhere very far out of the way. Something along the lines of hidden in a desolate system with no trade lanes leading to it. Mines or gas clouds would encircle the approach to the station making it only possible to reach by the most tenacious.

Q3: Security wise, this station was designed with enough firepower to smash entire fleets. A total of 8 asteroid base sized siege cannons (2 mounted on each substation 1 above and 1 on the underside) with a maximum range of 30 km and a splash radius of 2 kilometers ensures a hot welcome to any interloper. And if fast movers avoid the long range volleys of the siege cannons, over a 100 fast tracking weapons platforms firing AA, Torpedoes, high maneuverbility missiles and anti-capital ship energy bolts protect the immediate vincinity of the base.

Q4: Hidden behind such dangerous territory, patrols that pass that area are rare. However, there are regular outgoing patrols from the station itself and a support fleet of capital ships is permanently on standy near it.

Q5: Given the drastic departure of the station design from any existing house design, i figured that the station itself should have been built by the occupants of another sleeper ship that was never accounted for. The back story would have the ship being unable to find a habitable planet but instead landing in a resource rich system. Oxygen gas clouds and ice asteroids meant that the sleepers would have little worry about air and water. The resource rich asteroids there allowed for the construction of agricultural domes on the largest asteroid in that system which supplemented their dwindling food supplies.

As time went by, development continued on the asteroid until a time came when it was decided that an outer shell should be constructed over it and pressurised. This was the beginning of the concept behind the Citadel. Eventually, expansion reached a level that the Citadel of today came into being and the current barren state of the system was achieved. This particular house has never had a planetary hold and as such, the Citadel has come to be their capital.

Odd to think though, that hardly anyone has designed a custom station model in a long time as far as i know.

My perfect base would be like Shinjuku Station...a Station with lots of tower-like structures on it

Put it in the middle of a stormy asteriod field, so that only the roughest ships come near it....Dont know wot to do about food...dont fancy bio domes much

As protection i'd have a few Rheinland Battleships and other highc-class capital ships ^^

The population would be hardened professionals as both traders and criminals...nothing but the best makes it to my base ^^

@Wanderer A little overkill with the guns don't ya think and if there are patrols sent out commonly how do they survive through the mines or gas clouds or are they just really good pilots?

1. A West-point look-a-like station. Larger, with lot's of added structures, docks's and container (Kinda like FP7, but military orientated)

2. Located ina secure system, behind a jumphole hidden in a nebula...or in a nebula...

3. Maximum defense. I'm talking heavy-duty guns, weapon platforms, fighters and capships.

4. Medium population

A big space station that is 20 kilometers south of 8A in new york with a high security defense that is a highly populated area with Pirates only and no Junkers allowed!

Defend:100 repeild missile turrents,engry force field,super cannon 1 shot kill a battleship to prvent school froces come and take me school and blow up the station.
Place:In 4D,20k away from Manttan,trade line conneted,cowded because of this ststion's comfort and super fire-power.
Popaltion type:Me,tourists and tons of robots,sometimes,high level personnals.
Open for:All but school forces and DEE DEE army.
