Mining - An Effective Income?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Mining - An Effective Income?

Yes, the missions at the end with Eagle/Nomad weapons gets money, as does that 4mill/hour trade route. But can Mining generate a worthy amount of income?Could someone tell me where there are good mining places?

sure,
Omega 41 asteroid field for diamonds (the one near the sun, careful of the intense radiation) sell in New Tokyo for 1650 credits
Dublin asteroid fields for gold, sell in Alster Shipyard for 1275 credits (can sell in Tripoli Shipyard for 1529 but need to be friends with corsairs.)

Hope this helps

My fav: Niobium in Tau-37, not too far from the jump hole.
Outcasts never bother me, just neutral with them. 100%
drop rate on the asteroids, and it's a shooting gallery.
Sells for $911 in NY. Just beware the GC, they stick-up.

Not a long trip at all from Ainu to Tau-37, after I dump off
my Lux Consumer Goods. I just love....free money! Buahahaha

It's far faster to do a single mission, it generates much more money, and includes LOOT as well !!

certain asteroid fields on your map will be marked as "mineable zones". if you click the tag that looks like a pair of crossed pickaxes, these fields will turn brown if they are mineable.

what you can mine in that field is usually described in the field discription (click the field, and then the ? emblem).

to mine, fly into a mineable zone, and start shooting the small floating asteroids- the ones that bounce off you, rather than the other way round. you'll know you've got a viable target if the targeting cursor changes. one hit with any weapon will cause the rock to explode.

here's the tricky part - patience. most asteroid fields have already been heavily mined, and only a small number of the rocks contain any loot. whenever a rock is destroyed, the game randomly determines wether or not its going to drop the pertinent raw material, which you then tractor in. some fields are more abundant than others, delivering the goods more often. others are heftily depleted, and will take ages to scrounge together a small amount.

once your cargo hold is full, or you get bored, take what you've got and sell it wherever you like.

early on in the game, I think the best mining operation you can run is to mine the Silverton field in Colorado (near Pueblo Station), and then sell the resulting silver on California minor. it's fairly safe, as the silverton field is not heavily populated by pirates.

later on, I prefer mining diamonds in the Dresden system, and selling the result on New Tokyo. You'll have to fight off Red Hessians every so often, but the upshot is that, unlike the Omega 11 system, you don't need to worry about being fried by radiation, and of course, with mining, it doesn't cost anything except time, so the profit's the same.

it is, of course, a lot quicker and easier, just to buy diamonds from somewhere like Solarius, but your net profit from trading will be lower than your net from mining.

You dont have to just mine in mine fields, certain systems the NPC ships carry Good cargo that can be sold locally or up to 3 systems away.

e.g.'s

Dresden: Hessians near the Omega 11 hole have Nobium, need to kill 5 or 6 waves but eventually it starts to appear. then you just have a 3 min Cruise to the station to sell it.

Hudson: Xenos have Nobium and Light Arms just out side there base. Sell the Nobium in The Ring in Berlin or the Light Arms in the Rouge base in Hudson

NY: Outcasts and Rouges, fly between buffalo and the Texas Hole and you find them with Cardamine/Diamonds/Gold all can be sold in that system

you blow up the small floating asteroids!
At higher performance levels, there are really small floating asteroids that you can't blow up . Kinda gives the people at lower performance values an advantage...

Once I went to the Diamond Lavafield Beside Bautzen Station in Dresden in a Titan and stayed for like 15 minutes taking out rocks. I went to New Tokyo afterwards with a nice stash of 70 tons of Diamonds! I rarely mine anymore tho

We don't own this place, but we have an understanding with the people who do.....

I did that myself, once. you get an excellent profit margin, but nowadays I prefer flying missions for the outcasts: more money, doesn't take as long, plus you get bountiful prizes. only problem is I've done it so much that I now have to spend a few hours killing corsairs if I want to venture back into house space, or else I get stomped by bounty hunters and house police/navy.

You know, there is a GREAT and fun way to get the Corsairs to like you (or at least be neutral with you). This is good if you want a Titan, or it you're trying to mine the Dublin asteroid fields as Firelancer said above.

Go to the Omega-5 system, and you will find two bases; Ronneburg (Hessians) and Cadiz (Corsairs). If you want to be friends with Hessians, attack the Corsair's base and their fighters in the minefield, and if you want to be friends with Corsairs, attack the Hessian base and their fighters in the minefield. Simple as that. The Corsairs were neutral with me in 3 minutes.

CAUTION! I recommend using the Eagle, or a VHF, or HF just as manuverable. Firepower isn't needed for this, manuverability and good shields are what you need. Actually, the Anubis VHF is a good candidate for this as well, as long as you have that sheild generator with that 6000 rating.

The minefield in between the two bases is hard to get through with a bulky ship that doesn't turn well. It's a big freakin' minefield, and I got through with only 3 mines hitting me by using the Eagle. Get the best shields out there, you'll need them.

I actually stumbled upon this myself. I didn't look at the forum to figure it out. Heck, I didn't really want to be neutral with the Corsairs in the first place. I was trying to explore the wrecks and go mining in Omega-11, and just said screw it after blowing over $100k in hull repairs from radiation. I saw the Omega-5 jumphole, and thought "what the hell, might as well." Then, as if O-11 didn't have enough Hessians, O-5 had even more, as I came out by Ronneburg. In panic, I darted into what looked like an asteroid field, and ended up in a minefield. Then I just saw some Hessians and blew them to bits, and next thing I know, the Corsairs are neutral with me. But man o man, what a blast it was fighting beside a dozen Corsair fighters and attacking Ronneburg base. All turrets were destroyed. Didn't see a Hessian fighter for over 10 minutes.

I also found a good shortcut to Cambridge, which explains how the Corsairs can get into there and hack the lanes so easily.
