Live saving atomnospheres

Check this out... I was just playing around at planet Malta, and attacked one of the Sabres flying by. They attacked me, but I found that when I flew into the atomnosphere of the planet far enough (not far enough to die, just a hair's witdth away), the Outcast ships reported "no more hostiles" and broke off attack. They returned as soon as i emerged. I tried this several times with the same results. Prehaps those pesky atomnospheres really can save you life. Anyone else seen this thing?

When I fly into the atmosphere I usually explode .But I ain't a daredevil, anyway, if you like it, use it by all means. But you won't always be near a planet to save you, so it's not very useful. Possibly a glitch in your game prehaps?

Perhaps... I will continue checking. It requires parallel parking next to the planet and using side thrusters very, very gently. From there you could use it to attack docking transports, and sneak around to the far side of the planet to engage cruise engines and make a clean escape

Never had that happen to me, but I have had the nice experience of watching my enemies crash and burn. I was dueling with bounty hunters near Malta. I dived into the atmosphere to try and shake the trio of hammerheads that where hugging my rear end, and swung around behind the docking ring. Normally, I've found the AI will avoid that kind of stunt, and will break off, meaning that I can normally come about and sight them again.

this time, the stupid BH's followed me, slammed straight into malta and junked themselves. three hammerheads destroyed without me having to fire a single shot.

If you know what you're doing, you can play in atmospheres and solar coronas quite happily and safely, and even use them to your advantage. it's when you start to make mistakes that things go wrong.

i attacked the convoys at manhattan and once, when i flew in the safe part of the atmosphere, the police said "No more hostiles," and flew straight into the atmosphere.

Sometimes I like to fly @ cruise speed right into a planet and see if i can bounce off. Works well on laggy servers .

I was in Bretonia and attacked 3 or 4 kishiro convoys and then went to new london. well, one of the transports had gotten away b4 i killed it and all of london went hostile, flying around runnin from the popo's the bounty hunters showed up. OH GREAT! i thought, but i flew dead at the planet, the stupid bounty hunters died in the atmosphere but the popo's sat outside the ring. i eventually fought em off, took about an hour since there was like 50 of the pigs! needless to say, the popo's dont like me no more. oh and later that night they got revenge.... jumped me in edinburg shot me up lika mug!!!!

I think the enemy assume that your dead once you get too close to a planet. Since you should die in the atmosphere.
