System Numbers

Why are systems in freelancer numbered so erratically? i mean theres omega-3, omega-5, then it skips to 11, then goes all the way to omega 41. the same thing with tau systems, but i think the sigma systems are numbered by twos (13, 15, 17, 19)

another thing - awww i forgot what i wanted to ask... somethin about the unknown system... *thinks* oh well, ill ask it later when it comes back.

It's prolly because they didn't list the unexplored and empty systems in the region. I imagine our 40-ish systems is only the settled\resource rich\strategically important of the lot. It's just a question of keeping it simple. You wouldn't want to cruise through fifteen empty systems to get from Dresden to Manchester, would you?

Guess you didn't notice that all the system numbers are prime numbers?

Omega 3, 5, 7, 11. Sigma 13, 17, 19. Tau 23, 29, 31, 37. Omega 41.

The only big mystery is why Omega is split with the low numbers and then 41. And that can simply be explained by Omega 41 being the last system to be charted and numbered, after the others were already known.

hummm... prime numbers, thats an interesting observation.

and you would think, if there were other systems about that fill in the numbers in between, that one would find a jump hole to them. empty systems would be interesting... (and btw, if all systems there are resource rich and/or strategically important, why is omega-41 there? its a radioactive h3ll hole where a few morons decided to put up a base)

and how do the bases in omega-41 survive with all the radiation? those must be some pretty strong sheilds!
