Following the plot

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Following the plot

I just purchased Freelancer, and started playing. Now, after something like 10 hours later I'm heading into the main plot-line (or I think that's what it is).

This a great game, but here's where I start venting out my frustration.
After completing something like 20 missions, of which maybe 6 - 8 were plot related, I have ran into a wall. The enemy is getting tougher, the guns are getting bigger, and I can't keep up!

The few modest thousand credits that the LSF throws in my way every now and then isn't nearly enough to refit a half-destroyed spacecraft. The Defender craft with 2 x Mark 3 Justices on the wings, 2 x Pulse...(well, the things that eat at shield, but do practically nothing to spacecrafts) and a Slingshot launcher. Plenty enough to take on any average thug.

I just feel that I should leave the plot-line for a few missions after one or two runs, and then come back when I actually have something to throw at all those enemies.

The question is: is this going to destroy my relations with LSF?
How do I get back to that good plot-line, if I need to go load up on credits in between missions (and the missions seem to be thickening up after a moment of playing)?

I know this is called Freelancer for a reason. Being the Good Guy seems too much, though...so I guess I have to try something else...

Dreams are but a facet of reality

Trade and do missions to build up sufficient cash to sustain you throughout the rest of the plot , when juni summons you , you do not have to react immediately , and can go on freelancing till you drop

This is really difficult to answer without giving away spoilers...but I don't think the following steps over any major marks...

the plot-line as you put it, won't go away until its finished. In between each of the plot missions you get the option to go off and enjoy yourself, kit out your ship etc....and then when the game considers you to be wealthy enough, juni will call you and the plot-line will continue. Unfortunately, when Juni calls you can't really avoid her. You won't be able to take any further "normal" missions until you've done Juni's plot mission.

There is an alternative of course, which is to bounty hunt a little when she calls you, shoot a few ships down and sell their equipment on whilst ignoring Juni. However, if you do this it will be pretty slow going and you may find that your financial situation advances you through the "plot-line" missions too quickly - defeating the point of your original question.

My advice would be to start again if you're finding it a little too hard. Try not to rely on your equipment and build up some serious flying skills....there are people on here that have completed the entire storyline in starflyers, freighters and other low-equipped or difficult to control ships. Personally I stepped through the missions quite straightforwardly....I found that the mission time you get inbetween plotline missions is adequate to build up your ship - but you have to explore and use your time wisely.

As for your reputation, I can't comment on that without this becoming a spoiler, but I will say that you don't need to worry about it too much until the storyline is over.

I hope that helps

I'm sorry gromit, but one thing you said is wrong. You can take normal missions after Juni calls you. Juni will wait forever, take all the missions you want, they'll be there.

Accualy, after Juni calls you, you can do one or two missions. But eventualy, it'll say, "You alrready have a mission" and be forced to go back to see Juni.
