Freeport 7 in Omicron Major?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Freeport 7 in Omicron Major?

I recently started Freelancer again, and to my surprise, there was no intro movie (ie where Freport 7 was blown to dust, or space matter, depending where you stand), and there was just me in a starflier in the middle of nowhere, with bits of debris flying everywhere, i'm assuming from FP7. At first the place looked like Sigma-17, which is apparently the only tertiary star system in Sirius (namely three stars). I looked at my Nav Map, and to my complete and utter disbelief it said that I was in Omicron Major.

I thought it was just a glitch, so I restarted Freelancer. But then when I clciked on new game, it happened again! I forgot to take a screenshot so that option is out of the question. (i take screenshots of absolutley everything, i have over 2500 screenies on my hard drive (about 4GB in pictures) but not this bit!!!)

I mentioned it to my WAN (Wide Area Network - he lives up the road and i've known him for years) buddy, and he said it's happened to him before, so I thought i'd ask all the pro's about it.

Any ideas? i always thought Freeport 7 was in Sigma-17! Obviously not!

Pueblo Station: "We expected them to come from the Silverton Asteroid Field, but they came from the Copperton Field and completely surprised us! The Liberty patrols were shot down like flies"

Williard Research Station: "Two more torpedoes have hit the Harmony, and our fighters are being shot down like flies!"

Hakkera Tsushinamade: "Lieutenant Ozu, we're being shot down like flies. You and Mr Trent have to make your run NOW!"

I wish Trent would say: "Flies are an intelligent animal with the shortest lifespan of any winged creature, they are very difficult to shoot down, and cannot breathe in space!"

Are you playing modded? There are mods I believe that change the intro.
Other than that, you're the first to report such a thing so either that's the problem or you're pulling our legs.

Ok, here's what's going on. And here too...

To fix this, extract the original Freelancer.ini from data1.cab on your FL CD and overwrite the one in Freelancer\EXE

I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant.

OT: And I disagree on the subject that FP7 is a system. It might be coded that way, but in-game it's a base wich was destroyed in Sigma 17. The wreckage is still there. I don't care what the Ini-files say.

Nope, no mods! However, bear with me on this one:

> I had a system crash with Windows 2000 and had to reinstall Windows. However I had previously partitioned my drive so that "My Documents" was the Z drive, with Windows, Freelancer, etc., all being placed on the C drive.
> When I opened up Freelancer a dialog box within Freelancer (the same design as "Exit Game", etc.) came up and said: "The username and password you have supplied are not supported on this server, please reenter your user data and try again"! WTF ?
> So I then decided to back-up my FL Saves, but remove them from the standard directory so that this would not occur again.
> However, then when I restarted Freelancer the thjingy above with Omicron Major happened!

@Nephilim (1) - if it was in the Freeport 7 system then why did it read as Omicron Major? Answer that one!!! Or is it one for DA? I don't know . . .

@Nephilim (2) - in one of them thread link things someone mentioned that the Dyson's sphere mission was in Omicron Major, and Planet Toledo in Omicron Alpha. But you look at the "location"s of those saves and they read differently! Toledo is in Omicron Minor, and the Dyson's sphere should be in a completely different system according to those co-ordinates someone provided!

Omicron Major:
[system
nickname = St03
file = systems\St03\St03.ini
pos = 14, 3
visit = 128
strid_name = 196657
ids_info = 66115
NavMapScale = 2

One more time:

For the intro sequence, DA created a seperate system (fp7_intro), which is a carbon copy of Sigma 17 and can't be accessed without modding. Guess what - that system is called Omicron Major. "Huh?", you think. "I thought that was the name of the system with the Dyson Sphere..." well, it is. Someone at DA either forgot to relabel the place, or simply didn't bother, as you're not supposed to go there anyway. FP7's "real" location is Sigma 17.

I swear, some people at DA were smoking pot when they came up with all this.

It might be coded that way, but in-game it's a base wich was destroyed in Sigma 17. The wreckage is still there. I don't care what the Ini-files say.

Yes, the *wreckage* of FP7 is in Sigma-17, but the ACTUAL STATION was located in FP7_intro (a "temporary" system that *stood in* for Sigma-17 but was accidentally *mislabeled* as Omicron Major).

One MORE time. The system that you see briefly during the intro sequence (data\universe\systems\fp7_intro) is a copy of Sigma-17 (data\universe\systems\bw06) with a different and *erroneous* nametag. Why is it called Omicron Major instead of Sigma-17? Because whoever was in charge of labeling systems at the time SCREWED UP (or just didn't bother to restore its proper name, as you can't even GET to FP7_intro normally). Simple as that. Why didn't the intro use the "real" Sigma-17 backdrop instead of this facsimile? Ask DA.

No, FL's campaign missions make a veritable mess of things, hence the confusion re: Minor and Major.
