in the intro movie to freelancer, if you listen very carefully, when the narrator is talking about the sleeper ships, he says "against all odds, the colony ships broke through the coalition blockade and headed for the Sirius System"

Sirius SYSTEM... im quite sure that the sirius area is called a SECTOR, unless im greatly mistaken, and there is NO system in the freelancer world called Sirius... weird huh?

post any more FL messups here please. i find them entertaining

one more - the Natterturn... what a weird name. i saw this is a post from a while back: the german translation of NATTER is an adder (the snake). There is no word "turn" in german, only the verb turner, which means to do gymnastics... the closest other word is TURM, the german word for "turret". so either the NATTERTURN is a gun named after snake gymnastics, or DA made a typo! HAH!

This is what ive gathered from everone arguing about this (and what I say):
- The Sirius Sector is not the Sirius System. The Alliance called it this to make the colition to think that they were going to Sirius. Where we really are no one knows.
- The intro says Sirius system because it probably sounds better than Sirius Sector.
- As for your wierd named guns that belong to the Hessians ~ All FL guns are named after something. You cant make this stuff up!

well, sometimes lies sound better, but that still doesnt justify them. as for natterturn, many other rheinland weapons translate into something too: the Roter Blitz means Red Lightning (Rot=red, blitz=lightning). there was a post about the translations some time ago. read it (just make it so you can view posts from last 60 or 100 days and look for a topic about the naming of guns)

It makes sense about misleading people by saying Sirius System instead of Sector, but why would the narrator for Freelancer , which takes place a long time later, still say System? Just doesn't make sense in that context.

My view,
before the launching of the Sleeper Ships the Alliance located a system in the distant galaxy which they dubbed Sirius. Once the Ships got there however, they settle the various other systems near Sirius as well, and called them names fitting to thier heritage. As a sign of respect or just because they could, they called the entire sector of inhabited space Sirius, after the system first found. The Sirius System the narrator talks about is probably now the New York system, since Liberty got there first and took the central spot.
