A new name for Chips'' mod . . .

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

A new name for Chips'' mod . . .

After having read through various threads I have decided to post this thread and see what names people can come up with for Chips' mod. Here's the rundown:

Okay - it has all ships flyable, and new ships too. The ships handle differently - so light fighters are faster, turn better etc etc, and vhf are slower (lf = 130, mf = 110, hf = 90, vhf&freightres = 70, transports etc = 50/60).
There are second hand ships, engines, power plants, shields, weapons, thrusters.
There are new thrusters, os you have normal, military and pirate
Military - slower, but last alot longer
Pirate - faster, but burn out quicker
Normal - normal speed and endurance
Cruise time is 2 secs for lf, 4 for mf, 6 for hf, 8 for vhf and upwards to approx 15secs for battleships. VHF for each house.

The AI is alot harder, with all ships carrying some form of shield destroying guns.
They also use regens, shoot more accurately (you won't notice at first).

Bases are better armed, new weapons - lots of, new effects (not in your face, subtle), new commodities, including a revised loot drop from asteroids and stuff for the miners of you, + 3 commodities that can only be found by mining. New trade routes (old ones moved/erased, so try looking for new ones), there are slaves, child slaves, assassins, prisoners, passengers, tourists, pets, pets stuffed with cardamine for smuggling (safely), 5 new contraband things (includes slaves etc), pilots for pirates, police, navy, bounty hunters - including ace pilots, that can all be picked up after missions and sold back to the bases, or as slaves in Omicron Alpha. Bounty hunters buy pirates for a fortune, but will rob you of them in flight.

Cargo holds are alot smaller on fighters to promote some trading in order to get best ships, but missions do pay some more (top pay is 400k roughly). There are battleship encounters, battleship killing missions, nomads wandering round in the border worlds. New bases in normal systems, there are also several new systems - all in 3D - so you fly up and down as well as left/right, back/forth.
(tradelanes will take you up and down don't worry!), One system has four bases on one planet - one for each nation, there is also another system which has a huge minefield, containing passages through it, secret desterted bases, wrecks, radition, interference, internal jumpholes to take you to 'levels' in the maze.

Prices for ships, weapons and equipment vary. Nano bots and shield bats are 200 in house systems, 220 in IW systems, 240 in BW systems, 280 in EW and Gamma/alpha systems. Guns/ships/equipment cost depending on system - so kusari ships/guns in systems that aren't kusari controlled cost more than those that are. All weapons can be brought at detroit munitions, but at greatly inflated prices (for conveniance), missiles, torps and mines don't sell everywhere - so you have to be sparing/search, but you can carry 100 ammo. Also - pirate bases sell other factions stuff at increased prices too. Junkers have a 2nd ship sale and equipment sale going on. All shipyards sell large ships and equipment for them too.

You get pirates 'ejecting' from pirate ships in my mod - whom you can do four things to:
1) Sell back to pirates - they pay okay money to 'liberate' their chums
2) Sell to stations/planets for small money
3) Sell to the Prisons of the game for more money
4) Take them to a bounty hunter station and sell for alot - its a 'bounty' - but if bounty hunters scan you and find the pirates inside - they will attack you - they want that pirate bounty themselves don'tcha know?

It also has tourists and passengers to run around - but you can sell them to the outcasts in omicron alpha for alot of money - they want em as slaves - which in turn you can buy in alpha - along with child slaves.

Also - pets are a commoditiy for the rich and shameless- but if you are carrying pets in the presence of outcasts, then they will rob you too. Why? As the pets provide a nice way for them to smuggle the cardamine - they erm....'stuff' the animals full of cardamine, which you can then transport and then 'sell' at house planets.

There are others too - stowaways, absinthe, tobacco, prisoners, some commodities that can only be got through mining etc etc - the usual

Ships - You need reps depending on class, and also price varies with locations - ie, Kusari ships in Bretonia cost 25-30% more than in Kusari, the eagle in the usual place is now sold in a liberty system for 100% more than usual

All equipment is mountable and upgradable (except engines right now!), and you require reps to buy.

Guns sell all over the place, but Rheinland guns in kusair sell for 30% more than in Rheinland, ditto with everything else (eg outcast guns sell at LR bases for 30% more to 200% more). Detroit sells all stuff - but at high premiums!!
Ammo isn't as freely available as it used to be, or if it is, its more expensive! So if you buy high class missiles they cost 30% - 100% more in the liberty system than the places you can buy them.

Nano bots and bats cost normal in house systems, but 20% more each in IW systems, 40% in BW, 80% in those where bad guys live lots!

20 new commodities including 5 new illegal ones.
All NPC ships flyable.
Each house has a VHF as well
Some shipping companies have just got some new ships for themselves - i have only just put that in, it crossed my mind suddenly!

Four new house systems - 1 is my mindfield maze system - which has wrecks, abandoned secret bases, internal jumpholes, etc etc and lots and lost of very deadly mines (imagine zone21 covering half the map, with corridors carved through it, but half in the dark , lots of radiation pockets and interference.

New systems in 3D - so you go up to bases in tradelanes as well as accross. My fav is my planet with 4 docking rings to four bases - 1 Rheinland, 1 Kusari, 1 Bretonian, 1 Liberty - all selling their own guns etc.

Christ - have done lots - cannot remember - lots of new weapons, including over 36 new cap ship weapons

Oh - for capships they are mega tough etc, but their guns are suited to purpose. They have large turrets for killing each other (very powerful, but slow so fighters can easily dodge), 2ndry turrets for all stuff and then flak turrets to shoot down fighters - they are pretty good fun.

Oh - fighters speed depends on class - ie, lf go 130, vhf go 70, hf go 90 and mf go 110. Thrusters burn out quicker on vhf than on lf too - so you cannot thrust as long.

My personal fav - 2nd hand ships 0- all avalable at junkers bases. these have bad engines and power supplies, missing mounts and stuff - but they are cheap! All have custom info cards too. If you buy one, you will need to upgrade parts as when you cruise the engine will cut out on you after a while.

Capships can only dock at certain bases and planets - regardless of docking ring or moor points - so you can only dock at places i deem big enough - LOL. This is an attempt to promote helping each other incase this mod works well for MP. Ie - for max profit runs you need someone to run down to planet to load you up.

All the text above is by Chips, and I thought I'd lend him a hand

LOL - love the 'Holy **** how long' - and too answer, about 4 months. Mainly as i was learning everything as i went along, and bugs took a large portion. trying something new, then having to attempt about 20 more times to find out what is the prob was major good fun. However, i got quicker, to the point where i made 35 capships weapons in about 2hours. SOme parts just take longer than ever though - like systems.

There will be a 'bundle' package as a seperate download for anyone playing SP. This will give you the option to start Open SP in many different professions, as a cop, bounty hunter, trader or pirate. Each one has a ship for it, and correct loadout and costume (trader has a transport though - no poxy freighters!!), but also the systems too (trader and cop are kusari, bounty hunter in Manchester, Pirate in the badlands!). Also - you can start off with an easier start (AI isn't as heavily armed as they were!), and also with another one that changes prices of commodities all over the place - which is fun.

After that, its up too you - but beware, your rep is set for each of the factions as well (ie, trader - samura rep, bounty hunter - get killed by pirates etc).

sounds AMAZIN Chips, and i'd love to help beta test it. I don't know if you got my post in your "A more complete Freelancer anyone?", but could you e-mail me any further details at [email protected].

And by the way, when you say capital ships, can you have the transports, gunboats, trains, etc. because i've always wantede to fly a transport but could never be bothered to download the mod before I got DSL.

Keep the comments coming people, as (no offence to Chips) but The Elite Modding Project could be a bit better lol

I have done some beta testing on this mod. Let me tell you, it is everything that you are looking for in a Freelancer mod. It makes the game better without adding a bunch of outlandish crap like you see in some other mods. In short, IT IS what Freelancer should have been. You will not be disappointed when you play this. You had better be good at the game though, the learning curve is pretty steep, so it will add challenge for people who have mastered the game. Basically this mod makes it feel like you are playing a sequel.

My name for the mod:

Freelancer 2
