the Class 10 Adv. Brigidane Positron Shield is pretty much the top you can get, there is another type of class 10 shield though, I think its molecular based, not sure.

if fighting NPC's then yes changing shields can help, in PvP depends on what the player has for weapons, as some do give an advantage but I cant go in to that until Mod moves this thread to the spoilers section.

two class 10 shields (and probably class 9 as well) haven't been included in the game itself. Adv. Barrier shield is positron I think, and has about a shield strength of 8000. There's a molecular shield that does the same too, but what's suprising is an Adv. Champion shield (graviton) that's over 11,000 at class 10. The molecular and graviton shield have been created for the game, but aren't sold anywhere in SP or MP without using a mod.

If you want the only class 10 shield available, you'll have to be either an outcast or a corsair, cause they're the only factions that have them. Corsair base Planet Crete in Omicron Gamma is one place, and the Outcast base in Ommicron Alpha is another.
