Some believe that the Corsairs and Outcasts are actually representative of some cultures. The Corsairs rely on pirateing, much as some Spanish people did hundreds of years ago. The Outcasts are drug runners, much like Colombians etc of today. This is where the belief of Spain\SA comes from. I have to agree with you on the names but we know they defeinetly werent from Italy as they were defeated at the start of Starlancer.

No, I'd have to say there are some italians mixed in...the Outcasts and Corsairs(but especially the Outcasts) have a very Mafia-esque heirarchy.

Actually, I think the corsairs and outcasts are coming from the mediterranean cultures.

Legionnaire and centurion are roman names for foot-soldier and captain.

Titan is a race of giants who defied the gods in greek mythology.

Crete is an Island standing as a separation beetween the egean and the mediterranean sees.

Malta is an Island close to Sicily (the "mafia's homeland".

Leon is a spanish province.

Tripoli is a town in lebanon.

The word corsair is french, corsairs were not pirates, they were independant people mandated by kings and governments to attack trader ships from enemy countries. If a corsair attacks a ship from his country, he would become a pirate for everyone and an outlaw. If a corsair is arrested by an enemy ship he would gain the prisoner of war status (while a pirate would be hanged).

Spanish people were not pirates, they were the main victims of pirates in the caraïbes. Spain used to own south america and its gold which was shiped through the carabean see where french and english corsairs and pirates were waiting for them ...
