that damn race

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

that damn race

Anyone give me a simple way to beat that guy on his own track. I think this is so stupid anyhow that you would race a guy on his own track and expect to win.... I have a freighter after all, wasnt going there for a race went there because Juni (poorest planner I ever met) sent me there to "talk" withsomeone.

If there is a simple MOD I can use just to skip the mission that would be great too.

I love the game, this spot just has me stuck and I dont want to ruin all the surprises out there.

Thanks - Delphon

welcome to the boards

all i can say is....ouch! you started a campaign mission with a freighter!?! I can honestly say that I've never tried to beat the race with a freighter so I can't advise on how it handles etc....but I will tell you how that its a relatively easy mission to complete otherwise. When you are lined up for the race, hover over SHIFT+W until he announces go and then hammer on the engines as fast as possible. If you did it quick enough you should be either fractionally ahead of him or at least level. Now all you have to do is stick tight to the corners and don't miss a single hoop - he always messes up, so you should have no trouble beating him. Restart if you fall behind at any point.

I don't know how your freighter will handle the corners though, your best bet might be to find an old auto/save and swap your ship before you go off to find him....you're gonna need to fight later on at some point anyway.

As a rule of thumb, if Juni calls you to do something, equip yourself heavy and get ready to fight for your life. You can always swap back to a freighter later on.

Hope that helps

Hi Delphon, and welcome. You should consider yourself honoured; this may be the first sensible post I have seen by gromit. (or am I being unfair)? lol

back on topic, i have tried this myself in a rhino, (was trying to complete the game in it), and won after about 25 atempts, just keep barging him out of the rings.

otherwise, it is quite simple in a fighter.

Hi, Thanks for the advise, I know I am ill prepared but I happend to be only 2 jumps from this place when I was contaced so I thought I can go "talk" with my freighter ;-) I will go purchase a suitable fighter and return. I cannot remember the name of the freighter I have righ now but it is like a big fat turtle shell with 125 holds, comes out of the turns real wide. The fighter for sale on that station wasnt any better.

Thanks -Delphon

@delphon - fair play to you though for trying....I would have got frustrated long ago and reverted back to a fighter. Good luck with it...and let us know how you got on...

@LV i know

Than again, you could always turn on the speed 1200 mod! He bounces around and hopefully doesn't kill himself while you happily mosey on through the rings !

*whispers* cheater...cheater (j/k WB )

Just buy a light fighter, does it everytime.

Down with the graphics settings...minimum settings always makes the course easier, since there's less strain on your system.

And with a freighter, always turn a little bit ahead of the hoop(doesn't have to be a full turn, just a little adjustment to line you up better). Be especially careful on the last quarter of the course, where several rings are out of allignment- that part is very tricky for a freighter to navigate.

Most important thing in the assinine race -- no matter what the ship you're flying
-- is to kick in the cruise engines IMMEDIATELY. If Bubba gets a lead on you, you'll never catch up. All things considered, a race between ships when all ships fly at the same speed is totally idiotic!

p.s. The guy who came up with that race obviously is the same one who named the "mission commission".

I tried to fly with freighter but I had to change back to a fighter.

using freighter is possible,

Do not use 'goto' but to use 'Cruise' mode, set the cruise mode key to simple one like '~' or 'q'.

I don't hate the race, but I don't see the use for one either. Like ff said, all ships fly at the same speed, so what's the race?

I buy myself a light fighter especially for Hovis. The race sucks and Q is only a few k away, so what's the point in racing anyway...

I quite enjoyed it...it was a little variety in the whole storyline....there should be more variety really, but its quite obvious DA didn't finish it.
