Too damned hard!

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I finished already. Not sure what else is left. Just seems to be random missions from now on. I even thought about going into trade just to encourage myself to explore.

The other option is multiplayer. Ive started on a server, but not too impressed so far.

Ive downloaded the next generation mod and im gonna try that. But ive heard it makes many ships overpowered.

I think basically ill try trade for a while and try frieghter combat. Seems damned hard so it might be fun

I'd recommend the rebalance mod.

It's Ronseal.

Do any of them have story lines for single player? Or are they good multiplayer mods?

Post Sat Sep 20, 2003 12:24 am

MorganB, as far as I know none of the mods add story lines similar to the singleplayer campaign. However, you've just barely started singleplayer FL and it would be wrong to switch to mods so soon. You have yet to try all ships and weapons, find out how the reputation/faction system works and how it affects you as a fighter or as a trader, get an overview of the Sirius systems, find out where all the factions really stand in the scheme of things, and so on. A stint of trading is mandatory, as is having flown the Humpy for a while. After that you may be ready to learn how to fly & fight, and you will be ready to discover fast & efficient ways of getting rich, how to choose ships/weapons and use them effectively, or how to manipulate the faction system to achieve your ends quickly ... Having completed the tutorial does not mean 'game over' by any means.

Or stick with the Anubis for a while...it's a good ship for its class, and it's one of only a few that have that awesome red trail. Not the biggest nor the baddest, but fun.

Hell, they were even so kind as to sell me a ship after one of my jobs with them, and I've been flying her ever since. But god help them if someone puts a bounty on THEIR heads, for I don't care who I hunt for, as long as their live capture(or untimely death) can get me enough credits to buy a decent sized mug of my favorite drink."- A Freelance Bounty Hunter.

You haven't played until your class 10 ship (any of them - well maybe not the cow) has been jumped on by hordes of Corsair Sabres you've got down to your last bot & bat in a system you've never visited before, jumping through a worm hole at the last minute, replenned and gone back for some more of the b*st*rds. You sound bored already though .. this maybe isn't the game for you?

If you throw enough mud ..some's gonna stick.

Im not bored as such, just wondering if there is something im missing I will try some trade mission, but they will not be for me in the long run. Im trying the clydesdale at the moment and its fun cos im getting the beat down put on me something rotten ...... but once i figure it out im sure it will get easy again.

But i think when its all said and done im probably going to play the multiplayer most, and I guess I only want to play one mod on one server (or the unmodded version if its still the best in multi).

Combat tip- When your sheilds are down, try putting your afterburners on and flying arround the battle. Certain players, like Juni and King, are invinsable and will take down a few people before your sheilds come back. I hate storyline missions without batteries and nanobots. That one where you have to flee alaska and dock with the Osirus took me an hour before I could evade fire ling enough to dock. --- RR16

Why do the rhienland ships suck so badly? Flying the banshee and even with the extra shield armour and weapons I think it isnt as good as the Drake ... which is 1/3 the cost.

BTW I suck at freighter combat

to damned hard

i played singleplayer in a defender (i know, some in a rhino freighter) and played also the hardest missions what u can do also in a defender (div 43, 230k till 240k missions)

the div 43 missions was hard in the defender... was still alive, but losted the left wing with a slingshot missile launcher... but it's also fun to do... the repair and ammo cost where extremely high (180k) but still i get 40k profit for the mission... (for that u need to be consentrated and think about what missile u gonna shoot on him (wrong moment and the missile is lost in space (not hitting the target) and if u shooted to mutch sunslayer missiles ur ammo cost is more then u get paying by the mission...)

If u c some1 in a defender make fireballs from hunter it can be me

MorganB, the Banshee is just a normal light fighter, not an exceptional one like Starflier, Patriot and Drake. You have to have normal ships in a a game, to make the best ones stand out. An additional drawback of the Banshee is that there are no excellent class 7 guns (like the Xeno/Outcast particle guns in class 5 and 6), and so the only way to utilize the class 7 slots to advantage is putting a Debilitator and a Lancer missile launcher there. Fill the class 6 slots with either Xeno particle guns (Adv. Tarantula) or GMG photon guns, and you get a package that mows down enemies much faster than the Drake. It is a bit more expensive to operate than a Drake with class 5/6 Tarantulas, but it is fun nonetheless. An alternative would be using a class 7 GMG photon gun instead of the Lancer missile launcher, but it is not as much fun. The Banshee has a surprisingly beefy powerplant but as there are no excellent class 7 guns (and no class 6 shield buster guns either) it is difficult to exploit this advantage.

Wandering round in a sabre at the moment trying to find something to play with. Im sort of at the point where I can sit on the lvl 25 missions and not move and still kill the 10 corsairs. Off to woander the border worlds I think. I liked the hammerhead more, was powerful but it felt like a ship. The sabre feels like a large slightly mobile cannon.

Post Tue Sep 23, 2003 1:21 am

On the topic, use your thrusters and cruise man!

Post Tue Sep 23, 2003 2:33 am

yes..you must fly in circles... for me this was the hardest mission of the game, because you face lots of bad guys while your still inexperienced. i thought the game got easier after this mission. anyone else think so?
yes the sabre is a heavy moblie cannon, but its MY heavy mobile cannon!
