If you put your afterburners on (hit TAB by default) and then hit F1, and then hit resume game, your ship will continue to go at afterburner speed but without you hitting the tab key! Eventually, the juice will run out of course, and if you want to end your little speed trip early just hit the tab key again. This frees up another hand, especially for those of us who use thrusters to regain the manueverability lost in heavy fighters! Enjoy. --- RR16

yes, i do that on multiplayer (instead of hitting f1, you can press enter and do the same thing)

This is a very popular trick commonly known as "engine kill". Instead of going into the menu you can hit your engine kill key (Z on my set up) while holding down Tab.

No, that's not engine kill. Engine kill literally does that, kill your engines. It does not continue to drain afterburner fuel and your speed gradually decreases. This trick uses afterburner fuel and keeps you at top speed.

I seen a bug once on some ship mods (voyager). You hit thruster then engine kill and your speed wont stay the same but it would keep on accelerating till it reached 999. Thrusters power never drained too.
