New London sector wrecks

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

New London sector wrecks

The other day I went out hunting for wrecks. I found a rweck in New London (4g) and I rammed it, fired missiles at it, fire at it repeatedly and nothing happened. (except me fighting off wave after wave of bad guys). The wrecked looked like an l-shaped wreck of machinery -not a ship-, so was a firing at the wrong thing? If I was at the correct wreck (think so by the shear number of bad guys) how to I get the stuff to tractor?

if this is mp it probably had been already looted
when you targetted it did it have a health bar if not it wasnt a lootable wreck
if yes you just shoot it
nb not every wreck has loot in it particularly in some systems
double check with the sticky at the top of the page

So, I get the impression the "hidden wrecks" are just in the Multiplyer game. And not the single player?

No they are in both, but if someone already gets a wreck, you cannot loot it again

The lootable wrecks show as red crosses on the nav map and they also appear on the solars list. If you target them in space they show a health bar and have a name (like 'Corsair Fighter' , 'Patrol 27' or 'Othori'). There are other wrecks and fragments that are simply there for scenery, and these don't have the aformentioned properties. In one of the eastern New London asteroid fields there is a spot with three or more of these relatively close together. Also, during mission 2 you pass at least one scenery fragment in the Silverton Asteroid Field in Colorado.

In some places there are clusters of lootable wrecks where most are duds and only a few yield loot (Omega-5, Omega-11, Omicron Alpha, Omicron Gamma).

Some of the wrecks can be destroyed completely but most are indestructible. Due to a game bug the wrecks 'forget' the damage you do to them and show a full health bar the next time you visit. A few wrecks even yield fresh loot every time ... (Omicron Beta) The reason is that the universe is created anew every time you launch or jump into a system and the game fails to track certain things in its state data (savegame).

Cool, Answered my question completely, I was firing at a "scenic" wreck. Thanks, for all the help.

Sherlog, ever thought about writing a manual about Freelancer?

Naw ... But somebody at Microsoft should have thought about it. Actually, they have a pretty neat introduction on their Freelancer website somewhere (see link on TLR home page) with plenty of tips from the game designers. It even mentions engine-kill and other tactics ...

Update, guys went to New London's sector 4G, found the wreck amongst pockets of volitile gases. As soon as I fired at it, it released it's cargo and jumped me to Level 9 after selling what I couldn't use.

Thanks again.

There are a lot of unexplained bits of debris in space -- old satellites or even what look like parts of destroyed space stations. The game gives you no ID on what they are and you can't salvage anything from them. Maybe there were plans to do something with them, but they got left out in the rush to release the game?

I have completed the SP game and am searching for wrecks. It makes a great diversion from mindless missions. The folks at microsuck needed to get this game out. After all, 5 years in developement, and it still has bugs! Check out the wrecks in Shikouku. It is worth it.
