how extensively does empathy apply?

Ie, if I kill the enemies of a faction A, my rep with A will improve. If faction B hates faction A, will my rep drop with B even though I'm not directly serving A?

AFAICS there is no 'transitive' application of empathy. Observed behaviour is consistent with this: a rep change is applied to its target faction and then to all other factions (multiplied by the empathy factors), but the empathy-induced changes are not distributed further.

With regard to your example this means that killing enemies of A will change your rep with B only insofar as B has empathy (positive or negative) with those enemies.
