Competition: FLDQ - Freelancer Done Quick

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Competition: FLDQ - Freelancer Done Quick

In honour of T-Hawk releasing his mod Campaign Cut Scenes Disabled and perpetuating the tradition of QDQ (Quake Done Quick) I propose an ongoing competition for doing the campaign as fast as possible. In order not to penalize people who don't like mods I propose to do this in two classes: (U) for Unmodded game and (T) for T-Hawk's quick mode.

And in order to make things more interesting and to put participants in a nice quandary I propose to keep separate score as per number of battleships killed. It is one thing to go through the campaign quickly but it is quite a different thing to kill cruisers and battleships with a Starflier and a couple Justice Mk I on a budget of $4 ...

I would like contestants to post a screenie with the player info screen from after the end of the campaign, i.e. after the talk with the guy who tells you to enjoy your vacation. Please post your screenies as JPEGs with less than 100 KBytes and at most 600x450 pixels dimension, in order to keep this thread readable & enjoyable for all. I will keep scores per category in this post. However, in order to keep the volume on manageable levels, people will be listed at most once in each category and they must beat their own entries in the same and higher categories by at least 5 minutes (i.e., if you have an entry with 4:15 in category T4 then new entries for T0..T4 must be 4:10 or faster).

Also, any discussion of insights gained, newsworthy experiences and plain whacky stuff related to the blitz campaigns are most welcome. And applicants for a title must divulge their secrets and tricks if asked, in order to level the playing field. Of course, they may do so on their own volition ...

For background information and helpful (or at least interesting (or at least outlandish)) tips, please refer to the following threads:
Level 7
Battleship kills that do get counted
Plan for a maximum-fun campaign
Starflier campaign
Rhino Campaign

I have also created a topic where detailed plans ('you need two pieces of scrap metal, a burnt match ...') can be discussed, because posting them here could spoil the fun for people who want to come up with their own plans:

Here's the screenie for the first entry (putting it in a separate post so as not to clutter subsequent pages):

Just a note -

The Cutscenes Disabled mod has one bug - it allows you to decline missions 11, 12, and 13 (you aren't supposed to be able to), and the game crashes if you do. Just accept them and it works, though. I will try and figure this out later in the week when I get time.

Excellent work, T-Hawk! Your mod makes quite a difference. Here's the result of my beta test (and also an entry for category T6 ):

Category T9. 4:40:37, only four minutes slower than yours for 3 more cruisers. Will post info in the discussion thread.

So, is anyone else taking any shots at Freelancer Done Quick? One cruiser kill with time of 4:29 or less is all you need to get on the board. 4:29? You guys spend that much per day on multiplayer. Go for it!

Or any battleship kill in the unmodded game, even if it is with a hundred hours played ... There is only a no-battleship-kills entry for the unmodded categories!

Besides, T-Hawk and I have done most of the ground work already and posted most of our tricks. So a good player could beat T-Hawk's T0 time by assembling their own plan from the pieces we posted, and a very good player could do a T0 run in under 4 hours ... Beating the game in less than 04:30 and bagging the odd cruiser kill along the way should be pretty easy.

P.S.: only T-Hawk and I have to worry about not accidentally killing a battleship or cruiser while helping out Walker or Tobias (if we kill any at all then we have to get at least 13 total). Other people are perfectly free to score any of the battleship kills that do not take extra time - Manhattan, Leeds, Tau-29, Sigma-13 - even on a fast run.

Here's the proof of the pudding for the 4-hour T0 thingy:

I don't know if anyone is still interested in this, but I am. I didn't have the FDQ mod jiggy, but I did try to take out all the capital ships I saw. I got 11 confirmed capital kills. I think I got more, but the profile doesn't lie. Anyway, I just like the idea of a contest for capital killing. Just my contribution

Post Mon Oct 13, 2003 4:54 pm

I'm going to try, but it will probably take me 4 and half hours to get through half of it ... I just don't fight well ...mass weapon spray and hope to hell I catch something. MPs not possible this week on my other computer .. FLDQ will fill that time.

If you throw enough mud ..some's gonna stick.

AAAAHHHH CIRCUS!!!!, 11 battleship kills is quite an achievement - not even sensei T-Hawk has that many on record IIRC. You certainly deserve a place in the Hall of Fame for this - just post your player info screen from after the campaign and I'll put your entry up there. So far there is only a no-battleship-kills entry in the unmodded category, and so you certainly own it currently - regardless of the time taken. And I guess that you could not have gotten 11 registered kills without finding a few tricks that have not been posted yet. Why not start a topic about battleship-killing in the campaign, where you can relate your experiences and seduce others to go after battleship and cruisers?

I think there are some tricks that T-Hawk and I have not discussed yet but the rules are that we must divulge them if asked. If I had any time for playing then I'd try to break the 20-battleship-kills barrier ...

How does one go about taking and posting screenshots? (This is assuming I haven't done something stupid like delete old saved games.)

Post Sat Oct 25, 2003 8:30 pm

OK, this sucks. I have deleted most of my old campaign autosaves. I do still have the saved game from after the campaign, once the universe opens up. I have spent time exploring, so the time to beat the campaign isn't correct, but it still has the 11 battleship kills recorded. Is this going to be acceptable, or do I need to try and do this again?
