Beating Hovis

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I never said I did not know how to complete it, just couldnt complete it. I asked for a Save, if you have one, I would be grateful, if you havent, then thanks for trying to help, but you have actually been no help at all.

It's not that hard.

No, its not. Just make sure its running at a decent framerate, it makes it easier. Just hit Shift+W as soon as you can.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement, but I have been stuck on this for over a week, and cannot do it, maybe there is something wrong with me, but PLEASE PLEASE if anyone could forward me a Save point after the race I will be eternally gratefull, so that I may continue and go on to enjoy the game.

Its easy to say its easy when you have already done it, but spare a thought for us poor people who are just too sh*t to win the stupid race against that annoying b*stard!!!

Peace out, and keep Gaming

I have mentioned this before but I think it is worth repeating. If you can’t beat him you are doing something fundamentally wrong. My best friend got through the race and he has a neurological disorder and is on medication. His hands shake. Those tasks that come easy for you and I take an extraordinary amount of concentration for him. If he can do it, you can do it. Switch to the cockpit view and DO NOT use the go-to function to start your cruise engines. If you fly through the rings you will win. Hovis throws the race; you can’t help but to win. It’s almost impossible to lose.

Take the advice of many, Keep trying. You will beat it and you will feel soooo much better when you do.

I did find that my frame rate was causing some problems with other aspects of the game. I lowered my screen res a notch and everything improved drastically.

Don't give up. It is worth it in the end.

Just look at the ring after the one your about to fly to. You'll know how to angle your ship for the next ring before you go through the preceding ring. If you fly it often enough, you'll start ignoring the ring your about to go through and be looking at the next one past that. Once you get the hang of it, you'll kick Hovis' sorry *ss. You might even enjoy replaying that part of the game once you get some practice at beating him.

I've been stuck on this mission for weeks, finally packing the game in. Came across this site and beaten hovis first time, yeehaa! Just turn all your graphics right down and background stars off and run at 800x600x32 and it is very simple to win, he really does pack in.

It could be cargo. If you have cargo sell it or jetison it because i beat it AFTER i sold all my cargo. He is a lot easier after i sold my cargo. When i didn't i was slower in turns.

A Light Fighter is also recommended for the race. Beating it in anything bigger can be a huge challenge, but with a LF it's a breeze. That's more than likely why there's a Cavalier for sale on the Hood.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

I was stuck there as well for awhile. The Cavalier that is for sale on the battleship is fine for beating hovis. I finally did it in mouse flight on cruise.
I think the hardest part of the race is just at the halfway point when the next game is a steep drop.

It really is just getting thru the gates. Hovis does give up. Some of the race fans will shoot at you as you get close to the end but don't pay any attention.
I think its a matter of not getting tense and staying relaxed. You'll get thru it

Good luck

Thanks everyone, I completed it a couple of days ago, and I am embarrased to say it was easy once I changed my Screen Size, and Cockpit View.

So thanks for all the words of encouragement, and I am moving onwards and upwards.

Peace out, keep Gaming!!
