Friends & Enemies

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Friends & Enemies

OK, I've seen too many 'how do I get friendly with ___', 'why does ____ hate me?' posts.

IMHO it's best to be selective in who your friends and enemies are. I look at it this way.

There are five phases to the (SP) Freelancer game:

1. Juni Storyline
2. Earn Wealth
3. Get & Outfit Class 10 Ship
4. Explore the Universe
5. Become a Pirate or join a faction.

Until you reach phase five, having too many enemies really makes life hard.
Factions who have major bases, especially along Trade Lanes, make bad enemies.
Factions who are found in multiple systems, like Junkers and Bounty Hunters, make bad enemies.

'Good' Enemies:

Enemy #1: Xenos (obviously)

Kill Xenos to get good reps with just about everyone EXCEPT the Zoners.
Watch your Zoner rep carefully. Stop if they are going far negative and go bribe the Zoners.

Enemy #2: Mollys

Hunting Mollys is good for making Corsairs go Neutral, but don't overdo this.
Many factions have sympathy for Mollys. Bretonian authorities love ya for doing Mollys but
your rep with them will change major when you get friendly with Corsairs, so this is OK.

Enemy #3: Red Hessians

Maybe it's just me, but I hate these SOBs. Killing them will get you very friendly with
Corsairs so you can buy their weapons and equipment.

Other Enemies (Unavoidable or not significant):

Gaians

Unioners
Bundschuh

Bundschuh & Unioners go hostile in reaction to rep with Hessians, Xenos and Mollys.
Bundschuh are only important if you want a Stiletto or a Sunslayer.

Best Friends:

Zoners

Only way to get green with Zoners is by bribe, but worth it since they have no enemies
and quite a few friends that you want to be friendly with too.

Blood Dragons

Like the Zoners, friendship with Blood Dragons will counter some bad reps with factions.

Get as friendly as possible with:

IMG
GMG
Lane Hackers
Liberty Rogues
House Corporations

Short-Term friends: Corsairs & Outcasts

'Keep at arm's length' (Keep Neutral. Only Neutral.)

Bounty Hunters
Hogasha
Junkers
Farmer's Alliance
LWB
GC
House Military/Police

This is my recipe. Maybe not the best, and certainly not the only one. But it works.

For those of you in Phase five, a Pirate, what do you recommend?
I'm thinking of joining one House Criminal faction and making war on one House Authority.
Say Blood Dragons against Kusari or Lane Hackers against Bretonia. What's your experience?

I've just finished the SP for the second time and I've bribed everyone to the point that my rep is nuetral to good with everyone except the Xenos. I wanted to get on good terms with the Lane Hackers so I could get into Mactan after the last mission and buy a Dromedary, plus Mactan offers the best prices on many commodities. I don't have a lot of cash, but that will be fixed real quick with a Dromedary. I should be able to venture into some areas that were extremely hostile the first time I tried. I'm making sure my rep stays respectable with the Outcasts and Corsairs, I want to do some major exploration into their space, before I get them p*ssed. 8)

I think it's all a matter of opinion.

You say: Short-Term friends: Corsairs & Outcasts"

The Corsairs & Outcasts have the most powerfull ships around so i kinda like to have'm as long-term friends.. Especially when you need to travel trough their systems alot they can be a real pain in the ass if your not flying a VHF.

Short-Term friends: Corsairs & Outcasts

DutchDevil,

I'm not saying make them your enemy, just let them fall back to Neutral.

It's hard (at least in my experience) to have both friendly in the long term.
I get chummy with Corsairs first, so I can get the Eagle and outfit it with
Corsair shield & guns. Then I go get chummy with the Outcasts to explore their
region and the Corsair rep falls to Neutral. Not a problem, so long as I don't
need to buy their stuff anymore. Just gotta keep 'em neutral.
