I dont know jack about frieghters. Fighter-wise at level 26 i think you should be able to get yourself an eagle (might be wrong) which is the bottom rung on the top 3 ships ladder (....quiver quiver i'm not saying its better than the sabre/titan i just know it will have the lowest level requirement...)
However there are other options. The falcon is a nippier fighter and i'm sure you can get it at lvl 26. Also, while you're levelling up, it might be worth practicing your piloting skills in some of the tastier smaller fighters - try out the drake, banshee and valkyrie. This will improve your piloting skills no end and they are all quite good fun.
As for the best weapons, for the top 3 (titan, sabre, eagle) the nomad weapons are the best as they deliver nearly the best damage (and deliver best damage to
all shield types) per shot while consuming no energy. There are also the codename c10 weapons, some of which, deliver the most possible damage per shot. The codenames also do max possible damage to all shield types.
Outside the top 3 each faction has its own c9 weapons (which will fit on the falcon and the 2 bottom slots on the top 3) which have varying pros and cons. Most people go for the salamanca mk II's but usually only to match the nomads projectile speed, tho they deliver an excellent damage/energy ratio too. Tizona Del Cids (TDC's i cant remember the spelling) are the c9 shield rippers and it is usually worth while having a few of thse bad boys on board especially for PvP. Outside of that just experiment, this post is too long as it is and i cant remember all the top guns for lower classes
