Fleeing combat game glitch...

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Fleeing combat game glitch...

OK, this is my first post and I'm not even certain what forum it should be in... oh well, here it is anyway.

I found what I think is a glitch that allowes you to run away from any combat with computer ships, which is pretty handy for freighters and some fights.

Basically, if you hit your afterburners and then cut your engines and swing around to face the enemies, you get away. I don't understand why, but they never catch you. Even though you are slowing down slowly and they should be going faster than you.

Now, I hypothesis that it could have something to do with the computer locking onto engine emissions, or losing touch with you and announcing the 'area is clear' or some such logic, but it seems like a glitch to me.

Has anyone else found this ? And would anyone on Elite be interested in helping me test this out with player controlled ships ?

Sorry if this has already been covered before...

It doesn't work with player ships

i know and use the same glitch when i'm getting raped

but as for why the AI has problems with it.... your guess is as good as mine

Its a great trick for getting away from all kinds of stuff

Wow and to think all those times I actually tried to get away without exploiting a glitch.

actually, i use it alot in combat... i live in aus and my lag is unbelievable. so the solution is strafing runs with engines killed.

it gives you enough time in the sabre to refill your whole shield - handy when you can't target accurately because of lag...

The AI thinks you're facing to attack him so they drop out of cruise and slow down.

hm.. i gotta use that sometime.. but i always managed to rape the guys back..
hard to see how that's possible but.. i do it in my humpback.. hence the name 'hump' 'back'

This is currently registered with the FAA as a glider, and according to FAA records, it has no engine - which is technically true, if you ignore that large rocket in back.

Another good glitch I noticed is hit your cruise engines (make sure your on free flight though) then hit the reverse thrust button. This enables you to fire while traveling at cruise speeds, but if you are being chased swing your ship around and you face backwards with all your guns pointing in the direction of your enemy but you are still travelling forwards. If you catch my drift. Use afterburners to change direction though or to reverse. No Bull, this works This is my good deed for the day. Helping newbies destroy much more powerful enemies!

Use it all the time posted it here before but only one replied saying it's '^

Its not a glitch i reckon.

If you travelling backwards at 190+ they pull out, out of self preservation. For them to catch you they have to keep flying straight at you and hence straight into your aim. Its just suidide.
You will have noticed that if your flying backwards but not very fast they continue to come after you.
