Faction doesn''t mind being killed.

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Faction doesn''t mind being killed.

I'm not sure if this is something new, but it is something worth mentioning.

I found that for some reason, the Xenos, though sworn enemies, had a base that showed as neutral to me. I docked with it, bribed the Xenos to be friendly, and took a few missions to take out Rogues and other criminal factions competing with the evil Xenos.

Here's the weird part: apparently on missions where they send backup ships, you can complete the mission, then kill any of the remaining support fighters and bag their loot. They don't fight back, and it doesn't seem to effect how the faction feels about you.

I'm not sure if that's the normal behavior, but it was pretty cool. I made a bit more money selling the friendies weapons on top of the loot from the bad guys.

By the way, you can tell they are mission-spawned units when you hail them and they do not respond. Sometimes you will encounter random patrols, etc. and firing on them does not have the same non-effect!

This is normal. When you're on a mission from a base, the factions that are hostile to you are "temporarily" neutral during the mission. Only the targets are hostile (even if they come from a faction that is neutral or friendly). I guess this was done to keep you on-track in the mission, so you don't get side-tracked by encounters with hostiles, and also that you don't get ganged when you're already facing tough odds. Imagine taking a mission against Corsairs or Outcasts in their VHFs and having to deal with the Bounty Hunters at the same time because they're hostile towards you and happen to be in the same area as the mission... oof.

Happened once to me, Hessian vs Outcast, both hostile to me. They actually stopped fighting and tried to kill me instead. Then the Bounty Hunter came.

I hate Bounty hunters.

Alas, my eagle, althought broke of the two small wings, survived..

You can really abuse this temporary neutrality by taking on missions near minable zones. I tried this in the Dublin system and managed to get a full cargo load of gold with no one attacking me.
It's not a 100% protection though, there might still be the occasional patrol attacking you, but far less frequent than outside the mission.

Hmm.. Do the mission-dependent allies show up as only Xenos-Startracker, or do they have names, as the enemies do, ex. Rogues-John Doe?

Because if they also had the name, it would be really easy to identify them from other bystanders.

Also, the enemies that become neutral during a mission, do they turn hostile if you attack them?

The hostile faction ships behave like a neutral faction during the mission; they will turn hostile if fired upon, calling on allies for help if they're around; and any further damage you do to your rep with them will remain after the mission. It's just that their initial reaction to you is that of a neutral, they aren't immediately hostile as your rep would indicate.

Another thing that is interesting is that it seems that trade lane disruption and cargo-jacking is temporarily suspended during missions. I have never been tossed out of a trade lane or had a neutral pirate faction demand my cargo while on a mission. Can't really exploit this to get in some easy trading, though; you'd risk failing the mission.
