Level 10 shields & Nomad guns...

Well, where can I get them? Can I salvage them somewhere or do I have to buy them?

Post Thu Apr 24, 2003 12:42 pm

The nomads can be found in omicron alpha by an unknown jumphole in the north east of the map, kill em and take their blasters and cannons.
For the shield you'll need to pay a visit to your friends the outcasts/corsairs on planet crete/planet malta/Leon Base

That's fast

Thanks for the help.

Just a little tactical note: You're gonna want to get the shields BEFORE going after the Nomad guns.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000

What level are you? They won't drop if you are below 30

My experience is they won't drop until you're level 33+

Level 38, flying an Eagle. Of 4 nomads only one drops a gun, or am I supposed to head into the unknown jump hole and battle nomads there too?

There are two different unknown jump holes that will take you into Nomad space and you can jump into both of them. I haven't been able to explore too much of either one, but expect resistance in both of them as well as other possible hazards.

Orcrist: Just discovered this on the weekend:
Nomads come in waves of 4, right? Kill 3 right way,
then get last one down but finish him off using only
ONE gun (your weakest). Just like wrecks, you can blast
the loot by mistake!

I dunno, I would imagine the nomad systems to be somewhat easier than the Corsair or Outcast home systems...after all, the Nomads don't use cruise disrupters, so theoretically you would only have to slow down when docking with something or when you WANTED to fight.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000

Hate to tell you boys this, but the nomads sometimes show up in groups of EIGHT! and I've killed several groups of four before getting one weapon, But I have 4 blasters mounted and 8 in my reserve bin. Watch out for those groups of 8!

Just a comment. If you're really desperate then you can play with the faction love/hate ini file (empathy.ini?) and use one of the edits posted here somewhere (I think it's in the editing forum, not sure tho). Use the one where everyone loves you, and the Nomads will love you too. They don't appear as a faction but they're green to you and you can sneak up to 'em from behind and blast 'em before they know what hit them. Also, you'll need to kill about 6 or 7 waves (of 4, never seen a wave of 8) before they turn neutral on ya, and even then you get to fire first

I've tested this business of firing one shot of all your weapons and one weapon on the wrecks and I've drawn the following conclusion>
It doesn't matter if you fire one gun/ten at once and they all have a different rate of fire/projectile speed. As long as you fire one shot to open the loot everything has always remained intact for me. Same goes for finishing off fighters/nomads and anyone else with anything lootable imho. One shot will get your loot, anything more may mean dmg to the cargo. I've tested it in a million different places and completely mixed up weapon loadouts with really slow moving/fast moving projectiles and my loot always stays where it should be.............floating around the wreck awaiting my precious tractor beam.

I just worked on getting nomad weapons today (first time in the unknown from Omicron Gamma) and found it pretty easy (Eagle w/ Salamancas, Blue Blazes, and some similar lvl 10 weapons). I docked on Planet Primus, then launched, killed 4 nomads, re-docked, launched, killed 4 nomads, etc. That's the fastest way to get them, plus if you are damaged (but if you're good you should be able to avoid that) you can get repaired. From my experience, they will always attack when you launch from Planet Primus (I don't know about Gammu, since I only docked there once to find nothing useful).

When I was in the Unknown System, I got one nomad weapon (four cannons and a blaster) every four kills (only came in waves of four for me). But when I went back into Omicron Gamma, four nomads were waiting for me and I killed them and got two cannons from those four only, so I guess it depends.

EDIT: Also, I don't think using just one weapon to kill the fighter will matter. I used all six weapons the entire time and very rarely (maybe two or three times) did I get nothing from fighting the nomads.
