Any Tips on Mining?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Any Tips on Mining?

I tried to mine but I don't know what to do. I shoot a rock and it blows up. Nothing left to mine.

Sometimes you're the Windshield...Sometimes you're the Bug...

when in the appropriate areas, shoot rocks/space junk, then tractor beam

it's that simple.

There is a function in your Navmap, so you can see minable areas on the map.

These places there WILL be dropped something for you to pick up.

Snake,

There are many places to shoot rocks, but not all of them are mining zones. As mentioned, check your map and apply the mining zone filter to see if there are any places within the system you're in to mine.

I posted a complete listing of all minable zones - check towards the top of this forum.

And make sure you only fire ONE shot (From 1 gun not all of them) at the rock. I found out the reason I could never get anything out of the rocks was because I would shoot first round would blow the rock up and the rest would destroy what ever was inside. hehe

There's a better way to mine.

Let somebody else do the job and steal from them.

Use the "ask for loot" function. You know the one that goes "Drop the cargo! You got loot and I want them!" Most of the time, if you are flying a VHF, they'll drop it..

..and I just wonder, where do I buy one of those?...

Ask for loot? How do you do that? I didn't see it in controls, or a button on the HUD... Thought I heard someone else say you couldn't do it anyways..

there is no "ask for loot" button... just scan their ship, if it has somthing you want, shoot them.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea of building a giant robotic parrot out of melted down coins was a bad idea, I would have one kick a$$ giant robotic parrot.

another teensie note: use your SMALLEST gun...if you use something like a Diamondback, it's likely to blow up the loot even if it is only one shot. My recommendation is to buy a low level gun like a Justice or Starbeam just for the purpose of mining, because they won't kill your loot.

One other thing, if you're in a rich mining zone, make sure you're in a ship with a large cargo hold. When you start up, use a Rhino in the centre of the Detroit debris field in NY. Thats a pretty rich mining area.

Two things to be careful of. First, you'll likly not pick up very much good stuff (although in some areas you can mine some good stuff, Gold in Dublin for a start), but what you pick up is free, so don't complain

Secondly, most of the good mining areas are crawling with outlaws, so make sure you're neutral with them. Or just go packing some firepower

I'm using the Order turret off my old Anubis mostly for Wreck salvage/Mining
since Eagle turret won't shoot forward. I just go to Turret Mode and fire to
the rear for mining, for wrecks I fly just past it.

Aww, now look what you did! You left nothing for me to say... Except...
If you are looking for good mining, buy some Ripper Mines, lay them around really thick 'n dense, and get the hell outta there! someone with some good cargo will come along eventually...

And Snake, the next time you escape LA, don't EMP the whole damn world to darkness...
