The sp game I find is very easy, I completed the last missions on my first attempt. You have to know how to use the thruster(heavy thruster) and dodge and weave the incoming fire. Try not to use the shield bat, unless your hull is damaged, if you can avoid being hit for 30 secs or more the shield will regenerate, saving you precious sheild bats. The torpedoes seem to have the same effect as the windstalker at close range, also what gun/turret weapons do you have? when I played it, my energy level went down extremely fast. Not giving me time to keep firing all the time.
Basically it's all about keeping yourself from being shot all the time, burn the thruster a bit, then move, burn again just try not to get shot.

I too had quite some trouble with that mission. Most important of all, is to save your Shield Batteries. You never might know, if they could be of precious use later on. Always be aware of this. So use these with caution. It's not always possible, that you get to dock after each battle.

As a follow of this, you must be careful being hit. Strafe and Thrust. Dodge and evade.

Aswell as that i noticed a bug where your speed drops to 0 unless you hold down the increase speed button all the time. Alo of the time if you feel you are getting unusually pounded it is because you are flying too slow, even <50 can be nasty. Saving, quitting and then restarting always fixed that bug for me.
