Actually, no. I once beat NPC titans in a starflier. It took about 2 hours though

Erm... a Starflier is physcially incapable of destroying a Titan, no matter how good the pilot. They don't have the weapons bays to even get through the shields, let alone the hull -- the shield recharge rate would actually be faster than the damage rate. A Startracker stands more of a chance thanks to level-4 weapons, but by no means could a Starflier do it. The Titan would have to be sitting completely still, not shooting, with its shields down before that could possibly happen. If you've come across such a Titan -- you're not skilled, you're lucky .

And I dislike the way everyone says 'VHFs are for n00bs, lol!'. No they're not... apart from the fact you have to have earned quite a fair bit of cash and earned a level 32 pilot rating, they're incredibly hard to make work effectively. Think about it; what chance does a Titan have of hitting you in your Drake if a newbie is flying? None! Apart from the level of accuracy you'd need to hit it, you have to have incredible engine control and reactions just to keep it in your sights. I've seen people who've poo-pooed the Titan as a newbie ship look a complete idiot when they come to fly one before now. I avoid them like the plague simply because of how frustrating they are to make work. I respect anyone who can get in a Titan and use it properly. This is rather like the anti-guns protestors who damaged the JK2 multiplayer community a while ago, simply because they couldn't avoid being shot at they had servers that banned ranged weapons...

I've never understood these LF flyers. I've flown a Drake before many times, but it is nowhere near as good as a Titan. The simple fact is, that if two pilots of remotely equal skill, one in a LF another in a VHF fought, the VHF would win. Every time.

And for the record, two people flying Sabres could easily take on about 50 Starfliers.

Great computer!
What kinda chip you got in there?
A dorito?

Try this for size. Take your starflier after spending you 2000 credit at Manhatten on weapons, and get evil on the first lot of craft you see and see if you can survive. It starts get hard. Those puni class 1 fire away constantly.... and your energy hardly moves.

I think the reason the house ships are easier is for gameplay. In single player, its to advance the player in beatable scenarios, as having 6 sabers attack in the first minutes would probably discourage most players. And in multiplayer, its so that when you have a server, you can have level 100 pilots still being challenged by NPCs in the unknown systems and border worlds while noobs can still join the server and not die every five seconds. However, I think it could have been done better. In Liberty, for instance, there should be level 10 fighters, but they won't attack you if you leave them alone. Can't you just hear a pilot saying, "This guys not worth my time" ? And its a great way to make smart pilots, because attacking them would be very stupid. But, with the way the game is now, if you want balance, don't take an eagle to Liberty, sell it for a Patriot.
Last point, I agree with whomever said they need more battleships and they should be more difficult to kill. It should be like a guy with musket taking on an Aircraft Carrier. And I use carrier intentionally, because if you attack a battleship, shouldn't it deploy fighters? As it can dock them. Anyways, thats my two cents
