Hi
Nice debate
As for missile speed, simple way to increase their speed is to use your thrusters befor firing, it will increase the missile velocity (or torpedo for that matter), very effective. I used missiles on some of my games, but mostly on low level ships or ships that mounted an un-even number of guns (like Defenders or Falcons). What i do is go in for a head on pass, remove the shields and launch the missile. Usually it's a kill.
The drawbacks are meny
missiles cost money...unless you use a missile 1 level UNDER the level you can mount, because the enemies usually mount those, that way you get missiles from your dead opponents.
They just dont do that much dammage compared to a good gun.
They don't track well, to easily spoofed and require to much time to setup a good shot.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.
